Welcome to SatelliteGuys.US and our coverage of the 2007 Dish Network Team Summit.

Becoming a pub member is only $20 a year and it helps us do thes special events and also helps us keep the lights on.

Also if you post this info anywhere else please credit SatelliteGuys for the information. :)

The Dish Network Team Summit Opened with a video showing the Dish Network Nascar team and all of the success they have had this year.

After the video is done "REX" a animated face appears on the screen. Rex welcomes us to Team Summit and then introduces Charlie Ergen.

Charlie comes out and welcomes us to Dish Networks Team Summit, and announced that this years team summit is the 10th Team Summit event they have had.

At the first Team Summit in 1986 Charlie said his vision was a Dish in every Home.

Today is is modifying this vision, which now is.
A Dish in Every Home
A DVR in Every Home
HDTV in Every Home
Broadband in Every Home

Charlie tells the attendees that the oportunities for DIsh Network and retailers have never been better.

Dish Network is the leader is Digital Delivery with a fleet of 15 satellites.

In addition he lands a major bombshell.

Dish Network will be launching two new satellites by this December.

On these two Satellites they will be relaunching Dish Network in FULL MPEG4. All current Dish Network Channels will be available in full MPEG4. And everything will be receivable with just one 18 inch dish.

On these two satellites they will be able to offer the following:
200 LIL Cities in Standard Definion
HD Locals to 100 Cities
200 National HD Channels
1000 Standard Definition Channels
200 International Channels.

Again all on one 18" Dish with one cable coming into your house.

Charlie is very proud of this announcement and its another first for Dish Network. Other Firsts include...
First IRD (Intergrated Receiver, Descrambler)
First DVR
First Dual Tuner
First MPEG4
First HD DVR

Charlie then talks about broadband and talks about Wildblue, Dish DSL and also announces that WIMAX will be coming soon.

Charlie talks about programming and says how Dish offers the most choice anywhere. He said he would love to sell all channels ala carte but the programmers wont let him.

In the last year Dish has captured 52% of all new Satellite subscribers, and in the last 5 quarters has outpaced DirecTV by 58%.

Charlie wraps up by telling the retailers that Opportunity has never been greater.

With that Charlie wraps up and REX introduces Leslie Harper.

Leslie comes out and shows us how to use the new features on the 622.

She also tells us that DishCOMM has been turned on in the 622's and will soon be turned on in the 211, this will allow all the boxes to talk to each other.

With that Mark Jackson comes out and joins Leslie Harper on stage.

The QAM QBOX will work with the 622 and 211 this summer, this will be the first time dealers can install HD in a QAM enviroment.

He then tells us about a few of the new receivers coming out. the ViP 222 which is like a Dish 322 but it does HD.

The 612 is a Dual Tuner DVR that feeds out to one TV.

The 722 will have a 500 gig hard drive and will also supposet HD VOD.

He then talks about DishONLINE and how simple it is to wire using DishCOMM / Homeplug technology.

External Storage will be available this summer and currently it will support hard drives up to 750 GB. He explains that external sorage will help Dish reduce churn as customer who fill up external hard drives are not going to leav dish, as they will not be able to view their recorded libraries anywhere else.

He then showed us that we can turn a Dish 211 into a DVR by hooking up an external hard drive. He said it would act like a Dish 510 reciver and would do trick play (pause rewind fast forward) and also do a 9 day EPG. Again he said it would be like a Dish 510 receiver but in high definition.

He then talks about the Echostar TR40 which will be an Off Air Digitial Tuner which will convert digital off air signals and will convert those signals so a regular SDTV can view them. These receivers are eligible for the goverments $40 coupon program, in fact the TR in the TR40 stands for Transition and the 40 in TR 40 means $40 coupon compliant. :)

They then showed the new Dish Pro Plus 33 Switch, which can do 3 orbital locations and feed 3 receivers. It needs no power inserter and its not trunkable.

Leslie and Mark went off stage so Rex introduces us to Carl Vogel, the president and Vice Chaiman.

Carl urges retailers to stay focused on the customer.

Dish Network has the fastest growth in pay tv.

And unlike Direct TV, Dish has been owned and run by the same company since birth, while DirecTV gets sold off every few years.

Dish is the leader in HDTV and Dish will continue to be the leader in HD.

Carl tells us that in October 2007 the Program Access law will expire and how important it is that congress renews this act.

Next out come Eric Sahl, VP of Programming and Bobby Billman VP of marketing.

They talk about Local Marketing.
Then they talk about the NFL and how Dish offers more football then cable at half the price of Digtal Cable.

NFL Network is in Dish Networks Base package.

The then say what better way to have a football fan show his dish and his team pride with Dish Covers by DishSkinz, which are a plastic cover which attaches to your Dish. (These are great I have two of them already!)

They talk about Nascar.

They talk about PPV and mention that they are close with deals with Sony and Fox to offer their libraries on PPV and VOD.

They will be launching Showtime and Stars Subscription VOD service later this year.

They talk about Dish Online and mention remote DVR programming.

They then announce Cinemax HD is launching today (when they announced it the channel was already available for about 45 minutes, I was happy to see this one!)

They announced upcoming HD Local Cities

Anchorage, AL 6/7
Juneau, AL 6/7
Fairbanks, AL 6/7
Honolulu, HI 6/7
Birmingham, AL - This Summer
Oklahoma, OK - This Summer
Wilmington, ND in SD this Summer

Next up come Jim Defranco and Erik Carlson, who talk about Dealer stuff and issues. They tell retailers how to get a customer and keep a customer.

Some things of interest to you the consumer are as follows:

Dish DVR Advantage is changing on June 1st.

Credit Card Auto Pay will no longer be required
No 18 Month commitment is requires

In addition AT 250 will be available with Dish DVR Advantage for $59.99

In addition they are simplifying the premium packages with Dish DVR Advantage.

So if you have Dish DVR advantage with AT 200 for $49 a month you can get premiums at
2 Premium Service for $20 more
3 Premium Services for $30 more
4 Premium Service for $40 more

And in a way to upsell you to AT250 for $59 a month you can get premiums for...
1 for $10
2 for $20
3 for $30
4 for $40

And plus you can add HD to any of the above for only $20 more a month.

With that they wrapped up and introduced Al Gore, who gave a great (and funny speach) If he acted this human when he was running for president he would have won the ellection.

And that wrapped up the General Assembly.

Now I am headed down to the Expo Floor and will be takinig LOTS of pictures.

Stay Tuned. And again thanks for your continued support!

Doesn't sound like there will be much need for the DPP33 if we're only going to need a single dish.
rockymtnhigh
I see switching over to mpeg-4 a win-win for customers. Better PQ and room for more channels.

This is totally just a guess, but I'd be really surprised if Cinemax was the last national HD channel we get this year.

Which Satellite for Alaska HD Locals?

Scott, great report!

See Dish HD Locals on the EKB.

Does anyone have a clue as to which Satellite(s) will carry Alaska's HD Locals?
Currently the SD Locals are:
Anchorage 119
Fairbanks 110
Juneau 110

Is it reasonable to expect that the HD Locals will follow on to the corresponding Sats?

As someone not so new, I also second that request.
A summary is needed of what was announced.
There are lots of sticky threads, but none for that.
Thanks!

The new Alaska HD Locals will be on 110, spotbeam 46, spotbeams that are unused now for the AK HD pak. tps 4, 12, 26, 27, 29, and 31 are all fired up and hot. Tps 12, 27, and 29 carry the HD pak, channels 5501, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, and 16.

This is totally just a guess, but I'd be really surprised if Cinemax was the last national HD channel we get this year.
They need to add a couple more channels just to make sure that "DIRECTV will offer three-times more HD programming than any other multi-channel distributor" doesn't come to pass.

A problem with that theory is that the Dish 1000.2 has a DPP43 built in.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.🙁

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Actually, it is. A couple of people PMed me when I posted this, and when I asked for an address, they never responded. Then I just sort of let it go. Send me a PM to continue the discussion

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.

Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

Selfish Drake Maye holds back on giving the ball to Bills unlike Jags game, gets the win on the road.

That image is so true - especially after that Giants/Commanders game yesterday.

Some tight games that went to the wire...

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Wouldn't we then die of old age sooner?

I still have one of those although I've been trying to wean myself off it.

Among my many email accounts I still have a .netscape.net which AOL assimilated a while back.
