We're ready to call the 800# and make the jump from Comcast to DIRECT and I'm wondering what technique has had the best results in getting the best deal. Do you advise more than one phone call? Some have scored a free HD DVR, and some have got no deal here except the rebate. Can you negogiate free HBO over free STARZ and Showtime for the 4 months. I guess some steadfast advise is what I'm looking for.

You can always ask DirecTV and let them know you already have service with a competitor, the worst thing they can say is no. I have read that some have gotten great deals as you noted, it is hit of miss, depends on who you get on the phone, like a roll of the dice. If you decide to take the leap for HD with DirecTV, I would keep your Comcast Internet. This way you can get the DirecTV On Demand programming (mostly free). You can connect the newer HD DVR's like the HR20-700S to the router (a compatible one) and download from the Internet. You do not have to have your computer configured in any way for this, it can even be turned off to download programming if you get on the Internet successfully with a compatible router.

I hope you get the deal you want. Good luck. :)
