If you have an OTA NBC you should be able to watch that in HDTV but only time will tell about any other source.

Here's a blurb about 2002, released Dec. 1, 2001. Maybe that means if there is anything to announce, it'll be July 1.

"The Winter Olympics will be broadcast in HD by NBC affiliates and HDNet, carried on DirecTV. HDNet will provide the vehicles and support for the 1080i broadcasts. The HD coverage will total 24 hours a day (8 hours daily, repeated twice) but only events from the previous day..."

The 2004 Olympics will be shown on the digital NBC OTA channel 24-hours a day in HD, on an 8-hour loop, but it will be delayed about a day. I think lets say Saturday's Olympic action will be shown on regular NBC starting at like 11pm or 1am that night/Sunday morning live, then most of the action Sunday in prime-time, then Sunday night will be shown in HD. But the HD programming will loop continuously every 8 hours throughout the whole 2 weeks. Pretty cool that you'll be able to see some olympics in HD no matter what time you turn it on, but it will be delayed even past when regular NBC is showing it. So basically, NBC analog will have one set of programming, and the digital version will have a whole 'nother set, as well as different broadcasters/commentators.

I suppose directv could finish the locals transistion and add NBC HD in the space made, but I doubt it.
