What would make this trade worth it to you? Is simply making the playoffs enough? The Raiders are continuing to mortgage their future to win now as they tried to do with the Seymour trade, so far that's only gotten them to 8-8. Between this and Seymour, the Raiders will have spent potentially 3 first round draft picks over 4 years for 2 32 year old players.

This a boom or bust proposition IMO, if you don't think this takes you all the way you don't make this trade.

This year, NO ONE HERE expected them to make the playoffs...and probably still don't. Yours truly stated a 9-7 record in hopes of a 10-6 year and maybe getting in the playoffs. As for this year, continue the good QB play after losing our starter and get us into the playoffs...and it was worth the 2012 1st rounder. Next year, get us to the AFC championship with a still VERY young team, and it was worth the 2013 1st rounder.

Answered. Is it a huge gamble...absolutely. Does HueJax know Palmer alot more than anyone else here....without a doubt.

on the bengals side of things, its about time the owner stopped being so hard headed about this situation. you have now helped your team for the future. the team should always come first before any one player.

Well..in the grand scheme of things...the ball is now on his court as to what does with his pics.

TWO (*potentially) FIRST ROUND PICKS FOR THIS GUY?????????????????????????????

To some people, that photo would be PhotoShop gold... :o

Now that we've digested the fact that hot dog boy is going to Oakland, let's take a look at how this effect's the Raiders in the future....

1. What about Jason Campbell? When he's healthy, where does he go on the depth chart? He's been a very sufficient QB for them. Is he instantly demoted for as long as Palmer is on the same team?
2. If Palmer does NOT make the playoffs with the Raiders, there is an immediate QB controversy with the fans and the team.
3. Can the Raiders afford NOT to start Palmer? They will be giving up 2 very high picks to get him. Is he an automatic start no matter what?
4. What about Terrelle Pryor? What does this mean for his future development? Didn't the Raiders give up picks to get him too?
5. Needless to say, with this risky trade, the Raiders have mortgaged their future for now. Hue Jackson is really taking their late owner's famous words to heart... "Just win (now) baby!!"

What does it take to win the AFC West? 10 wins? Let's take a look at the Raiders remaining schedule.

They are presently 4-2 meaning, they'll have to win 6 of their last 10 to have a chance at their division.

vs. Kansas City
vs. Denver
@ San Diego
@ Minnesota
vs. Chicago
@ Miami
@ Green Bay
vs. Detroit

Hey Ramy, according to some reports, the Raiders signed safety Chinedum Ndukwe yesterday. Hey played for the Bengals from 2007 to last year... what can you tell me about him?

He was pretty good for a short while and then it looked like he became lazy on deep passes.

...to the Bengals for Carson Palmer. The supposed trade with be completed by the deadline today....

....WOW...

ALSO, they..as in the Raiders, supposedly told Jason Campbell, "take your time coming back, we should be ok for this year...." OUCH! Not too sure I like that.

...WOW....

I'm shocked, but relieved at the same time too.

...or that's code for the team saying teams are not offering enough. Pretty sure the Bengals 'weren't interested' in trading Carson Palmer also.

Not playing him, and seem to be unwilling to pay him, why not trade him?

I agree.

Jim McMahon wasn't very good either and he got a ring too.

And I hate to say it, because it was a horrible tragedy that happened to his son, but neither was Mark Rypien.

It's unbelievable that these guys won Super Bowls, and Dan Marino (IMO, one of the top 5 QBs EVER) never won one.

its sad. thats when you realize you need a team to win the big one and not just one guy. dolphins learned that the hard way. i appreciate the guys loyalty but i wish he would've left for Pittsburgh when he had the chance instead of extending his contract here. i'm sure he would've gotten his ring with them.

The 2013 2nd round pick for Palmer becomes a 1st if the Raiders win a playoff game this year... which is obviously the goal. This is probably a 2-3 year window and then it will be up to their free agency moves and amazing drafts to prevent the team from a pretty steep drop down to where they've been for the last several years if not lower.

GREAT question. I know he was in the last year of his contract. I will assume he will have to fight for the starting job next year. THIS is the guy HueJax wanted in Palmer.
2. If Palmer does NOT make the playoffs with the Raiders, there is an immediate QB controversy with the fans and the team. Not THIS year. He is coming to a completely different situation and completely different team with NO OTAs and NO preseason. Next year...that is a different story.
3. Can the Raiders afford NOT to start Palmer? They will be giving up 2 very high picks to get him. Is he an automatic start no matter what? I am gonna assume he will start the game after the bye week. He will have 2 weeks under HueJax and with his new teammates.
4. What about Terrelle Pryor? What does this mean for his future development? Didn't the Raiders give up picks to get him too? Pryor was a project for 3 years down the line. The intent for Pryor was never to start under center within 2 years. He will have a good QB to learn from and a former QB coach in HueJax as well.
5. Needless to say, with this risky trade, the Raiders have mortgaged their future for now. Hue Jackson is really taking their late owner's famous words to heart... "Just win (now) baby!!" Yep, that he is. But I will say this. They lost Nnamdi...and who looks better? Philly or Oakland? The Lost Gallery AND Miller to Seattle...who looks better? Veldheer and Kevin Boss have completely outplayed them both. I one dropped interception in the 2nd to last play away in the Buffalo game from being 5-1

HueJax has done a great job in everything he has done in Oakland, they ONLY thing he has yet to solve is the penalty thing...but, in the last 2 games, the Raiders have a total of 9 penalties for 95 yards...so it IS getting better.

Huge price to pay, but I can understand why the Raiders did this. They finally have a chance to make some noise, and their only chance at QB goes down for the season.

The Raiders are not a young team, so they figure this is their chance.

We gonna find out.

Rey, I still remember the Dolphins-Pats game in Foxboro in 1984. Marino just absolutely destroyed a pretty good Pats team (they were 5-2 going into the game). IIRC, Marino put up 50 points, but he could've named the score. The Pats simply had no answers to stop that machine.

It was so bad that after the game Pats head coach Ron Meyer fired DC Rod Rust. The next day the Sullivan family reinstated Rust, fired Meyer and named Raymond Berry HC.

Bottom line, Dan Marino was one of the all-time greats!!

My personal opinion? Nobody is exempt from being traded. Especially on this team.
