2025-26 College Football

For those debating on an expanded Playoff ...

I'm hoping this Doesn't happen, but i'm thinking it will eventually.

If the TV $$ lines up it eventually will happen. I can easily see a 12 or 24 team format in the future where ESPN & TNT Sports share the early rounds of the playoffs (or maybe do like the NFL and let every network have a piece of the pie). They've got to get more $$ to continue to sustain this new NIL era.

They NEED to form a Committee to make some Rules for the NIL and Portal ...

The portal for basketball will be a 2 week window from the end of the tournament. Will they do the same for football.
They have some problems with Football ....
In reality, the Portal should open in maybe Feb or March ... so the Season is over and before Spring Practice opens.
However, I think it has to do with the Schools and when they start the new year (as in after Jan 1 as many people start early now)
I think the Schools want it in Jan to work with the classes.

Also, Coaches should have to stay with thier school till after the CFP Championship game.

Of course, people will set up movement ahead of time (yes thats officially Tampering), but they will say, everyone Season is over in Dec unless your in the Playoffs.

So, they have a LOT of things to work out ... while thay are at it, figure out what to do with the Money being spent. Make a Limit.

Rememer when everyone complained about Ohio State spending 20M on players ?
Turns out that was for Portal AND to Keep their Own players ...

Meanwhile it turns out Other schools spent Way more ... which didn't come out till later ... once the money issue died down.

A 24 team set up would be bizarre.

Again, this is about money, but it is conflicting with the existence of the conference system, which I think college football fans need to accept no longer exists! All this talk about conference champions after the realignments is nothing short of delusional denial.

Now that the conferences are effectively dead, they should just move to the next step of a College Football Premier league. Top 11 teams in the nation play each other, 5 home, 5 away. Top two teams meet for the championship. At the end of the season, the bottom three colleges drop out and are replaced with the top three of the realigned Division I system. But this won't happen until the denial of the death of the conferences goes away.

That would violate anti-trust, which is why the NCAA has consistently lost every law suit filed against it.

Meanwhile, as "NIL is killing football", ticket prices to the championship game are heading to the stratosphere.

article said:
The day after Indiana's win over Oregon in the Peach Bowl the cheapest ticket for the Jan. 19 game on GameTime was over $3,500, including fees. The average ticket price was $5,589 — more than double the average price of last year's game.

Tickets went down in the days after the semifinals. Per GameTime, the get-in price on Thursday was just under $2,700 after two days of declines.

Now, with the game merely hours away, prices have shot back up. As of Monday morning, the get-in price to the national championship rose to $3,910. The average ticket price was $5,740.
