Sorry about posting in the wrong area. Ice, you are even a bit further north than I am. Does it get clear reception? If so, all I need is a motor and I'm nearly ready to go.

Well it is 30" so it should work. What are trying to get and what is your zip?

I have an old 76 cm dish laying in my garage. How well would something like this work for FTA Ku-band reception?

A 30" dish will work for 95% of all FTA channels, 99% of the time!

I'm located in Tennessee and speaking from my personal experience with my 76cm dish I can say that you may not be able to receive some of the weaker transponders up there, but for 96% of the Ku FTA stuff up there you should be fine.

LNB for 76cm

I would suggest to go with a invacom lnb.. would give you a little more juice than the standard FTA lnb to help with the 76cm dish.
The invacom is only .3db, giving you better signal quality, which is the more important than signal strength.

As noted above, most of the KU band stuff you can get with a 30" dish. For me, there has only been a handful of feeds (usually hockey games) that didnt have enough umph to keep it stable :)
(and that usually is weather related)

That would be a great start to your system :)

Ah! Thanks for the heads up on the LNB. I've ordered one, a single from Invacom. I hope to eventually upgrade to a C/Ku-Band LNB should one become available.

Again thanks!

I am using a 76 cm up here in northern vt, works ok for g10 but wish it was a little larger. Snow / rain fade is a definate issue with this dish.

The 30" will work for Ku band, but for C band you'll need at least 1.2 meters (MicroBUD!), and that won't get much. Most agree that 5 feet is the minimum for C band reception.
