Wilt (at CV yahoo group) mentioned that the code and the receivers maybe out soon. If so, this will a great addition to the 8300HD on Cablevision. This and the USB HD may drive me to CV....

As far as I know it is only for Cablevision but others Cable Companies have it already. So you may want to check with them.
Firewire allows you to digitally (without analog/digital convertion) record from the HD box to an HD recorder like the JVCs or others. This feature is not available in any satellite system and ONLY cable seems to have firewire on their HD boxes.
