I have a 622, currently out of contract, and I can't decide which upgrade option to go with. I do have a 2nd TV and use the TV2 feature of my 622. I do not need the OTA adapter.

I heard the 922's new software update enable TV2, so now that's an option for me. So here are the two options I'm deciding between right now:

Option #1:
ViP 922 - $200
TOTAL: $200

Option #2:
ViP 722k - FREE
Sling Adapter - $100
Google TV - $180
TOTAL: $280

Please let me know what you think is the best option for me now and for the future. Any Pros/Cons would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Call Dish and try and get a better deal for the 922. I was able to get them to lower the upgrade fee to $100.00 and waive the $95.00 tech. charge. Your out of contract so you have some leverage.

Thanks - I may have to give that a try. So does the 922 require a tech to come over to install it?

That'll be nice to get the tech charge waive in addition - I also need them to come over anyways because my Dish is whacked out and can no longer tune most of the non-HD channels (loss signal). Dishes look fine and aren't obstructed, although there's no way I putting my clumsy self on my steep townhouse roof to get a closer look. So hopefully I can plan knocking that issue out and getting the new receiver setup in one visit...

Thanks for your post. Did you need/get an OTA tuner and if so, did you have to pay for it?

I already had an OTA tuner. Try and get one. What's the worst that can happen? Remember 9 times out of 10 you can get a better deal if you are out of contract or to get you to sign that 2 year contract. If you are getting the 922 also ask for another remote for your TV2 output.

Thanks for the reply, Sox. Gonna be thinking about it. Also thinking about jumping ship 'cause of the 3D "gimmick". D* has 3D PPV ($6.99 I think) as well as ESPN3D and another channel. I'll probably wait to decide 'til after CES next month. So, you're pretty happy with the 922? It's meeting your expectations? Thanks again.

I actually just did a live online chat with their customer service, they transfered me to a customer loyalty specialist. They wouldn't give me the 922 for $100, but instead will give me $10/month off for 12 months ($120) plus waive the $95 tech charge.

Apparently they have no clue about the S110 software update that enables TV2 because they kept telling me that the 922 only supports 1 TV. They did say they would add to the work order though to include a 2nd remote.

So the 922 will cost you an extra $48.00 a year in monthly $4.00 charges to sling vs FREE on the 722 or 722k and sling adapter. The 922 is more expensive of the two options, in both upfront upgrade charges and continuing monthly charges.

im with the majority here. The 922 gets crapped on by the 722 with sling. Nothing is really appealing about the 922 anymore. I did want a 922...now I see no reason for it.

So what exactly are the reasons the 722/Sling is better then the 922 (besides cheaper)?

Is the 922 really that unusable? What exactly is wrong with it?

Does the 922's built-in sling not perform as good as the 722 w/Sling?

Thanks for any details you can provide!

There are no positive thoughts about the 922. You get a pretty guide and a few more hours of dvr time.

A well built 722 will be cheaper and probably be more stable.

What do you like about the 922 vice a 722 with a sling?
