couple issues
-DirecTV isnt at 93
-DirecTV uses its own type of coding. Its not DVB so even if you are aimed at 101 you cant get the DirecTV sats
-ExpressVu is at 91....that is a thought

Why you can't get signal from 101W, if you use the DTV lnb (linear) on a 36" dish as Chapelrun mentioned? We can't do anything with those scrambled signal but we can see the signal and quality level.

Thanks

I checked you numbers and they look correct.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Use a systematic approach - - - by that I mean set the skew and forget about it. Start a bit high on the elevation and work the azumuth back and forth in very small increments. Then lower the angle one degree and try again.

2. One time my 9 year old helped me by using a Walkie - Talkie (I was on the roof and he was in the house watching the signal from the receiver)

It can be very frustrating when you cannot find the satellite but I have found the systematic approach to be much better than a random method.

Lastly, since DirecTV has signals at 101W and 93W if you have an old LNB from DirecTV you could find those two and then go half way in between. This sometimes helps since DISH and DirecTV put out so much greater signal than Ku band.

Thanks Chapelrun. I like your approaches. I have a 7" portable DVD player with A/V input jack and it's great for this type of application.

DirecTV is not DVB, so our DVB FTA receivers won't see any part of its signal. DirecTV uses a proprietary technology. What you could do is use an old DirecTV receiver as a signal meter.

I had the same problem. In the sattelite settings menu I was getting 0 quality but if you look at each TP individually you will see signal. Evene right now when I go to satellite settings It shows 0 quality but I am getting 109 FTA channels.

This is because the first transponder for that satellite in your receivers transponder list (the default transponder when you select that satellite) is not active. That's why, when aiming a dish, you want to tune to an active (and if possible, strong) transponder. After finding the satellite with the strong transponder, use a weaker one to tweak your aim. There's a sticky thread maintained by Iceberg that lists the strong transponders on each satellite.
