Why not?? They carry CNN!! I hope they carry the HD channel too. The American people need to see a beheading in HD so they can really tell what our troops are up against in this war!!

I think that if we have freedom of speech in this country, what is the harm in seeing news from different perspectives? The real danger is if we believe what any newscast says, without question. We should always examine our news sources with a critical eye.

I would welcome Al Jazeera English, and BBC World. I might watch a little here and there, but not all the time. Nothing would please me more than for Dish to replace MSNBC with either one. Heck, even Sky News from the UK would be preferable.

Unfortunately Dish just doesn't outright drop channels unless there is a contract dispute (then they come back with friends, like Lifetime did) or they go dark (like CNN Fi did). MSNBC is here to stay, and is a necessary evil if we ever hope to see certain other NBC/Universal channels that have been requested ad nauseum.

edit: Now that I think about it, Dish sometimes keeps channels even when they go dark, like with NickGAS. I wonder if anyone ever tunes it in anymore? They keep playing the same 10-15 year old shows over and over again with no new content.

But I digress. Yes, I heard an item on the news recently about how the guy that Al Jazeera hired to launch the English channel just left, as did many of their reporters, over an editorial decision to downplay some recent event in the middle east. Sounds like the channel is going through some turmoil right now.

I don't have Dish/Direct, but I do have FTA. I'm also a news junkie and lean slightly to the right politically and think most of the "Americans are fat, dumb, and ignorant" talk is a load of crap -- despite what CNN/FOX/MSNBC sends our way (and, IMO, they are interchangeable and not bias isn't their problem, but their major problem is passing crap off as news).

Having said that, an FTA set up is worth it, just for AJ English. Yes, it has a pro-Arab slant. No, it is not Jihad TV. It's not hilariously anti-American and filled with anti-West diatribes (if you want that, Iranian State News is in English on the same bird). However, when Kenya was erupting and Casto was resigning, I was watching AJE while CNN was interviewing pop stars' psychologists, MSNBC was bashing the president and FOX was "Breaking" with a car chase.

When did I state that Fox News is the only "fixed" news outlet? I used them as an example just because Rupert Murroch has admitted as such on multiple occasions. If it will make you feel better, yes, CNN definitely has more of a liberal bias to it-no doubt.

If AJE is an FTA channel, what possible financial reason would Dish have to use up transponder space on it? I suspect the customer base would not be large enough to support a business decision to carry. Most folks would not pay for something that is free.

This is exactly why I wish E* would carry AJE, or at the very least BBC World. I get so tired of what gets passed off as "news" on the BIG networks. It's time to realize the world is shrinking, and civil wars in Africa matter more to our country than a celebrity sighting.

It is available for free on the Internet. I would not wanted it added to my package. How about Fox Business Channel instead?

I dont see this channel coming to Dish, as the channel itself is in danger of going away. There have been large budget cuts which have cost the channel some of their main anchors and has effected their news operations.

I heard only one cable company (in DC area) subscribed to the news channel. If it doesn't get on other cable and sat company lineups, don't see how they could survive.

I've watched AJE and Russia Today, they are slightly biased in regular news programs; however their talk/opinion shows are definitely slanted with 1 pro-western vs 4 pro-xxxx. Then again, I see this on This Week (abc), where there are 3 liberals (+1 host) vs George Will....

Press-Tv is another story, no slightly biased there.

Now, as you may know, I am not an advocate for Dish Network, to add more HD, but at least, I hope Dish Network would at least, try to consider adding Al-Jazeera International, because Dish Network already has Al-Jazeera.

I don't really like to use a FTA system to get Al-Jazeera International, so I hope Dish Network hopefully, might consider an A-la-Carte way, or put it in the Arabic Elite Super Pack.

I don't think Al-Jazeera Interational would be a waste of bandwidth, so I hope Dish Network will consider adding Al-Jazeera Interational, in the future.

And maybe they will start carrying the Aryan Nation channel or The Nazi News Network. !sadroll
