A-Rod Out 10 Weeks!!!!

Things have definitely changed. It's important to note that only about 8% of Major League players are African American. Averaged by team, that's only 2 players for every 25 man roster.

Considering that a higher percentage of the Sox' roster is made up of minorities this year with Latinos and Asians, they are hardly "too white" any more....

And I will give you that, but because Rosenthal said something negative, IN HIS OPINION, about your team....does NOT make him suddenly a hack writer or someone without credibility. You show me WHAT write has NOT written something negative about ANY TEAM at one point or another, and I will show you a writer living in LA-LA Land. HE is has a history of writing negative things about YOUR TEAM, then he may have a hidden agenda....but your sample size is ONE story....that hardly makes him a writer with a credibility problem.

Credibility problem, where did you get that from?? I don't know what the hell you're talking about. I was simply replying to Bill's post about how things have changed from the old Red Sox. I never said before he is a hack, but he is one.

I do remember Rosenthal's column, it was from last October. I dismissed it as being nothing but inflammatory opinion. It must have been a light "news" day because he then offered this passage late in the column, conflicting with the whole tone of his column:

All that changed after a group led by John Henry purchased the team in 2002. The Sox established diversity and community-outreach programs, and the team's message of inclusion extends to the clubhouse, where manager Terry Francona fosters a diverse, tolerant environment. The Sox's 2004 World Series championship team was an exuberant mishmash of cultures and personalities.

FOX Sports on MSN - Ken Rosenthal - Will non-white free agents shun the Sox?

Salsa,
you had a point about the Red Sox having race issues from 30-40 years ago. I agree with that.

But what Rosenthal wrote last October was irresponsible. Like Cosmo said, only 8% of MLB is African-American.

What made that column reprehensible,IMO, was the fact the Red Sox were the defending World Champs. I could see if the column was about the Royals or Padres that suck every year, AND they were "too white", or we're talking about the Red Sox from the '60's, '70's and even '80's.

Isn't the purpose of fielding a team to win a championship?

How can ANYONE question how a team is constructed after said team won a championship?

Whether they won a World Series or not does not matter Bill. I understand what you were say that maybe it WAS irresponsible for what he wrote, but whether the team won anything, it should not matter. And you know full well that NO ONE will give ratz ass about a team does not win....ala Royals or the Padres. Everyone will wanna cover/write about the elite teams...ESPECIALLY if there something negative the could be under all the smiles and hugs.

Besides, you full well that was an opinion piece that TO ME, is neither calling the Red Sox racist nor calling the city racist. It is an opinion piece of whether the make-up of the team now might shy away free agents that are latinos or of black decent...and will the history of the Red Sox franchise and city, scare them away.

Latino player and black players, according to the article, want to be around teams and cities that to them, might be a better reflection of who they are....that is not calling the city nor the team racist in my eyes. You tell me, would I as a Puerto Rican man, would feel more comfortable around latinos than whites or blacks....yeah I would because we have alot more in common....than with blacks or whites. I bet the same can be said about blacks(more comfortable around blacks) or whites(more comfortable around whites) were asked the same about who would they feel more comfortable with....they would respond in kind. That is not a matter of race, but a matter of comfort. THAT is what the story is trying to tell.

For you who doubted what I posted early this year about more dirt on Arod. You were wrong. I was right, at least my friend was.

The Bronx is burning up over red-hot news reports linking Yankee nemesis Alex Rodriguez to an escort service used by disgraced former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

A-Rod using an escort service??? That's more surprising than him roiding. Doesn't he know that he doesn't have to pay for it? It's a fringe benefit in his business...

It wasn't a stretch by you to suggest that more dirt would eventually come out on A-Rod. He's the hot topic in sports right now. He plays among the biggest media circus that is NYC. More dirt was inevitable.

Now for you to only come out AFTER the news was made public doesn't prove that you knew something specific prior to this.

Well Well Well. Look at this. "A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez," by Sports Illustrated reporter Selena Roberts, One interesting part of the book is that the Yankees clubhouse suspected Rodriguez of using banned substances while with the club.

No way!!! Arod Lied again? I don't believe it.

And Yikes. the book also includes allegations of Rodriguez tipping pitches to opponents during lopsided games.

Mike and Mike was talking about this early today and they stated there was a VERY interesting paragraph at the begining of the book stating that some of the information is "alleged and/or rumored". Until you have hard facts about tipping pitches...that is only rumored to me. I know plenty of guy that have played Major League baseball.....NEVER heard of ANYONE tipping pitches to OPPOSING players.

Huh? Why would he be doing that? Does the book accuse him of wagering money on games? Why else would he want to give an opponent an unfair edge?
From the article:
Rodriguez expected players he helped would do the same for him when he was having an off night and needed to get his batting average up and it wouldn't affect the outcome of the game.

From the article:

Oh my. This is starting to sound fishy.

I'd imagine both this Selena and A-Rod will have plenty of questions to be answered once this book comes out.

And btw, has the entire world turned into a bunch of Narks and Canaries? Chirp chirp chirp! What every happened to the Italian code of "Omerta"?!

Ok, let's sum up the book so no one has to feed Selena the Canary...

1. A-Rod used Roids
2. A-Rod has flings with aging pop-stars.
3. A-Rod's teammates had silly nicknames for him.
4. A-Rod likes to play poker
5. A-Rod likes to fibb

The End.

Let the man move on with his life already. Last I checked he's never beaten an elderly man, child or woman. He's never shot himself, a dog or another person with a gun and he's never ran over a person while drunk.

A-Rod has never "harmed" another life, only his own reputation. He's practically a saint by most standards. Move on folks.

So far Selena Roberts hasn't reported one single thing that was wrong or a lie so she earns my respect. Arod had not only lied once but it looks like he lied about using steroids in a Yankees Uniform. So I give Selena the benefit of the doubt.
