ABC to switch to Mpeg 4 DVB-S2

uh oh...

I like having ABC HD on G16 as my local ABC seems to sp-sp-sputter sometimes. Bugs me watching the NASCAR race and the picture pixelates at 76 signal on the HDTV

ABC HD on sat just trucks along just fine :)

Sports coverage has used fiber for backhauls for years, with satellite links as a backup, and CBS used uncompressed 1.5-gigabit links to bring back feeds of the U.S. Open tennis tournament this summer.

"Sports, I can see moving entirely to fiber," predicted Stranathan.

That doesn't sound good. :(

I guess "bye bye" to C-Band ABC feeds on my 1.2 meter dish :(

I've read that Fiber is much more expensive than Satellite, and that doesn't account for the more efficient DVB-S2.

I though satellite time was more expensive than fiber. (I hope fiber is more expensive so that they use satellites more often)

Now the question is where do we find a reciver that will blind scan s2 well.

I doubt you will need a blind scan receiver to find ABC HD DVB-S2 when they start broadcasting. I think we have enough people with BLSA's on SatelliteGuys. We'll find it and it will probably end up on the same transponders that they use now.
