Never used one myself a friend of mine had, one he liked it. I like the way the Suunto is designed myself, but that one would work just as well.
 
Certainly don't need a compass for installing a dish. Just point it in the general direction and sweep it left to right slowly until you have a signal then start tweaking it in.

You want to come do my install. Should only take you 3 days to find the spot to get signal without that compass.
