I came into an Initial GM-510 gps unit using a core operating system of Win CE. This looks to be one of the cheaper knock offs from China but it works well and has 12megs of flash plus will hold one or two movies and play music so I'm cool with it. What I'm not big on is the intellinav software and it looks like the company no longer provides updates either. What would be a good alternative to both the core operating system and the gps software that would work on this unit? How hard would it be to put a small linux distro on there or should I stick with win ce and why does vista see this as a smart phone? Is it because of win ce?

i have igo 8 and garmin on my phone, its winmo 6

you may be able to upgrade to winmo 5, 6, or 6.1

check the requirements
