AM21 question/Vacation Hold

Newbie question...I'm going to be traveling for about six weeks this summer, and so I'd like to put my DTV service on a vacation hold. There's also a couple of shows I'd like to record over the summer that are network shows. Is it possible to use my AM21 to record OTA shows on my Genie without having active DTV service? Or is all recording capability shut down when I pause my service? I haven't tried a hold before, so really wasn't sure what worked and what didn't. Thanks for the help!

Your dvr won't work when your account is suspended, unfortunately.

So if I took it with me, I couldn't even watch programs I already recorded?

No, not if it's deactivated. In order for a Directv dvr to work, it has to be activated and connected to a dish.

For what it's worth, if you disconnect it from the satellite before it is deactivated, it will work for some number of days before it automatically deactivates itself.

Yes, that will get a few extra days, but not forever.

If you have/had a broadband internet connection a short-term Hulu subscription might be a solution
