The FCC has granted SES Americom, on behalf of Echostar, permission to pause AMC-16 at 113º and 97º for Ka-band testing. It will pause for up to 20 days at each location, on it's way back to 85º.

See here.

Not any better than yours. So, if anyone that can add to the conversation, please tell me what the purpose of these movements and testing are. Thanks in advance.

It couldn't be broken down any more than that... it was in plain english and very easy to read. Welcome to the ignore list.

Well sorry. It was all meant as a joke. I, not knowing anything about satellites, was made curious as to why the movements and the testing would happen, or what the point was.

As far as the ignore list goes, Im sure ill live.

KA band sat

KA band is a different frequency than the present DBS birds use (present birds are a KU band). This new band of frequencies are going to double the amount of usable amount of transponders available to be use of for direct to home broadcasters. Is that in plain enough English for the newbies?

AMC-16 will stop at those orbital locations to satisfy an F.C.C. requirement for EchoStar: bringing the slot into use, thereby preserving their license.

Providing service, even "testing," is enough to ensure they retain rights to those two slots in the Ka-band.

Simply dragging a bird into a slot and firing it up for a few days does not satisfy the requirements to keep a license. They must meet the milestones set forth by the FCC of getting a bird in that position.
