No $%&#, hence the smiley. I mean what does Ka-band testing mean if, anything for me as a sub. OR, is it just information that is useless on a future programming level.

Well sorry. It was all meant as a joke. I, not knowing anything about satellites, was made curious as to why the movements and the testing would happen, or what the point was.

KA band sat
KA band is a different frequency than the present DBS birds use (present birds are a KU band). This new band of frequencies are going to double the amount of usable amount of transponders available to be use of for direct to home broadcasters. Is that in plain enough English for the newbies?

I would add - it will check if any interference will happen with future E* sats in the positions and D* sats.
AMC-16 will stop at those orbital locations to satisfy an F.C.C. requirement for EchoStar: bringing the slot into use, thereby preserving their license.
Providing service, even "testing," is enough to ensure they retain rights to those two slots in the Ka-band.

Simply dragging a bird into a slot and firing it up for a few days does not satisfy the requirements to keep a license. They must meet the milestones set forth by the FCC of getting a bird in that position.
