I've been watching this a lot lately and have a few questions, don't know where to ask, so I thought, why not here.

Any CFL fans out there?

I have watched the Friday Night Games for several weeks now, stumbled upon this and really enjoy the game, and slightly different than NFL. Three downs, not four, 55 yard line, less padding on the players, typical Canadians, very polite (it seems so far).

But I have questions about the game and sponsors.

WHAT is RONA?
What or who is TSN? Certainly not Turner Sports, is it?
How wide is the CFL field?
What is the 1 point for kicking beyond the opposition Goal area?

Big CFL fan here :)

RONA is a home improvement store (think Home Depot, Lowes, Menards) but they are Canadian owned

TSN is "The Sports Network" the main sports network in Canada. They are partially owned by ESPN but are mainly owned by CTV Globemedia. They show sports from various media outlets and produces a lot of their own. Some of the items they carry is the NHL from Versus, NASCAR (both cup & Nationwide races), NFL Football, they use to carry WWE Raw. They have a new station TSN2 which mainly is just a 3 hour delay but does show live sports as an "overflow" so on TSN2 I have seen where a sporting event (taped) started, then 1/2 hour later they cut to a live event

65 yards wide (vs 53 1/3 yards for NFL)

the 1 point is the "rouge" or "single" which forces you to run out the ball from the end zone or give up a point

Also the DL must line up 1 yd off the line-of-scrimmage

No "backfield in motion"; more than player can be in motion at once & they can be moving toward the LOS & do not have to reset before the snap of the ball.

12-men on the field on each team

46-man rosters, means that most teams have one player who both punts & kicks.

No fair catches on kicks

5-yard "cushion" for punt returners. 5-yd "no-yards" penalty if punt hits the ground, 15 yds if the punt is caught in the air.

110 yd field with 20-yard endzones. Some fields have to round the corners of their endzones.

QB's in the CFL have historically been able to run. The "windows" CFL QBs have to pass through are larger than the NFL windows, but, with only 3 downs, QBs whio can run are at premium since there isn't a down to waste by throwing the ball away.

I love the cfl game.

That 5 yard "cushion" you mentioned came into play last night, it seems that the punter doesn't need to follow that rule? Or so I got watching the game.

OK, I also see that America One is encripted, and the OTA station I have here doesn't necessarilly always stay with America One. Last night for instance, during the half, I watched a re-run of "Two Guys" Production, called Hot Air, local guys go out and show "interesting things" happening around the County. When that was over, it was well into the Third Quarter.

My question, on either C or Ku, is there coverage free (Conaxsat Duo receiver) for watching CFL? Standard Def, I can't afford fancy receivers (yet).

Thanks guys for the answers.

sadly no

The only feeds I've seen have been HD feeds and they are the home games of Saskatchewan & Winnipeg...the rest have fibre

TSN only does one feed (HD)...then they crop it for the SD feed (seen it on my Shaw Direct system)
