i thought that it was odd that Best Buy did not even have this in their ad this week.

I went in two weeks ago, expecting to pick up M*A*S*H. Not a single copy in stock. Sales droid said that BB didn't order any. They seem to be severly limiting their new stock these days.

I went in looking for it too, seem that none of the Best Buys carried them in store.

What ever happened to Lawrence of Arabia on Blu-ray? Wasn't it supposed to ship this year?

Lawrence of Arabia has never been officially announced for Blu-ray release. I've read comments from Hollywood insiders like Robert Harris which suggest Sony is working hard on a new Blu-ray release and that it might possibly be released sometime in 2010.

Rumors why there is a delay point to Sony creating an entirely new digital master using the latest film scanning technology. LOA could be getting its 65mm elements scanned at 4K resolution at the very least, but possibly as high as 6K or even 8K like what was done with Baraka and the new Wizard of Oz BD.

I certainly do not want Sony to rush anything at all with creating the new digital intermediate and master for Lawrence of Arabia. If Sony takes their time and gets the job done right the video quality of the disc should look outstanding when it is finally released.

I saw LOA in a 70mm theater when they rereleased it sometime in the early 90s. 70mm films have such nice detail on huge screens, I am afraid that is an era gone by.

I certainly agree. I can wait. But I'm planning on this being a showcase BD for guests, in both PQ & AQ (I hope).
