Anyone know why the Hopper connects to Netflix.com

I don't use Netflix for anything so I'm not sure why the box keeps connecting to it. Is it for analytics or something?

I've been in the TV activity part of the hopper. I've seen a 3rd tuner pop up saying software update but does not say for what
