I am retired and would need to sell stocks to pay cash

This is in no way a personal judgment of you, but I'm struggling to understand a financial strategy where one would not have several thousand dollars of cash on hand even for emergency purposes? I'm certainly no financial expert, but I have taken the Dave Ramsey class and that's one of basic tenets. I keep several thousand in a PNC high yield savings account for emergencies (not necessarily a phone purchase!) but I would feel naked without cash on hand.

On my last cruise two excursion days, I ran out of storage and had to use my wife's iphone to shoot stills.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a phone that allowed you to easily move content to external storage? Oh, wait, you can do that even on an iPhone!

Fortunately for me, I bought a 1TB USB-C drive before the price jumped from $80 to $180, as I needed one to download firmware to my car.

This isn't "cheap" as it once was, but it would allow you to continue to use the family flagship phone's camera.

Are you saying you *can't* do that on an iPhone? I regularly connect an SSD to the USB--C port on my iPhone 16 and transfer large amounts of data with no issues

Been there done that. The problem is when out on an excursion, it's not that easy to offload 200GB of video files to a external drive.

I carry three half TB NVME sticks in cases just for that purpose. But I need to wait until I get back to the ship to do the transfer.

Question for you- Can I transfer a file on an android phone storage to an external drive if the phone has enough battery Power? My XCAM 3D VR180 creates huge files and the SLAM XCAM is built into an Android phone OS. It has 350GB of free storage. I could easily carry a 1TB NVME in a USB-C Case and connect it when needed. I should test that.
In the past, I have made the transfer from the XCAM through a PC laptop USB-C ports, to the NVME stick in the evening. Takes a very long time as that route is very slow. On an excursion, it would tie up my camera during the transfer.

My cost basis is $13.27/share, so I need to research how to handle the capital gains.
If in a brokerage account the only way that I think the IRS allows you to avoid capital gains, long or short term, is to donate them to a qualified charity. Strategy I have used is to sell over several years span to keep a large profit from hitting all at once.

I ordered the Apple Watch 12 over the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple is giving me $190 for my old Apple Watch Ultra 1.

I watched the iPhone 18 Pro video a few times and I can't see upgrading from my iPhone 16 Pro MAX. Especially after loading the RC of iOS 27 last night. Most of the features I liked that they showed of the 18 Pro is available in the RC and works great on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. In the photos app the Reframe and extend are working just like they showed in the video.

Also I find it strange and odd that they are using different modems in the 18 pro and the 18 pro max, where the Pro Max has a lesser modem in it and cannot fully do the 5G like the 18 pro can. You would think they would put the better modem in the Pro Max.

Haven't been able to find out if the 18 has full bandwidth Wifi 7 as the 16 and 17 had gimped versions making Wifi 7 the same speeds if not slower than Wifi 6.

So at the moment I can see no reason to get the 18.

Of course you can transfer content -- be it Android or iPhone. I would note that there is no distinction between phones and non-TV devices in the Android world; phones, tablets, and other devices (diagnostic tools, MP3 players, thermostats, etc.) all use the same OS. Most Android streaming boxes use a specialized version now known as Google TV.

Battery-wise, Qi charging (when available) may save the day.

What I'm not understanding is how this involves your phone storage.

That's the nature of the device that you chose, combined with the volume of content and video resolution you want to capture. It is virtually identical to needing external storage on the iPhone Pro to record in its highest quality video modes. I might fantasize about flying an 8K 3D drone that could remain aloft for an hour or more while shooting 60fps video to onboard storage, but that's just not economically feasible for me. My expectations must be tempered by reality.

Do you use the Blood O2 monitor on your watch? If so, were you aware that Apple was forced to remove it on all new AW after Ultra 2 and same for regular AW? Seems there was a Patent Infringement case against Apple they lost and were forced to shut it down on new AW's but were allowed to keep it on existing watches. My Ultra 2 still has it. It was gone on the Ultra 3.
In the US, results are calculated and shown in the Health app on your paired iPhone (Respiratory → Blood Oxygen) rather than on the watch itself. That's the redesigned workaround Apple has used since 2025 after the Masimo patent dispute.

Thanks I do a timing test and see how fast it works and how much battery charge it takes. Unfortunately, the XCAM, while an android phone, has no Qi Charging, only through the single USB C port. The front has two large 3D lenses and the entire back is the display screen, or android home screen of apps.

The SLAM XCAM is an android phone, but I don't connect it to a phone carrier. My whole use is to shoot 8K VR180 3D. Do a search on the SLAM XCAM to see how it is different from a traditional android phone.
I also use a large format camera, the Canon R5C with dual fisheye lens. It uses high speed CF $torage. Takes 2TB size cards. But I use the XCAM when I need a durable small camera I can carry in my pocket. I'll use the Canon rig when I need higher quality such as a stage performance where I will tripod it or move with it on a large Gimbal.
The iphone 15PM, has apps to transfer 4K video I record with my Rokid or Meta glasses. These transfer the video to the iphone via wifi while shooting as they have very limited video storage in the glasses. I recorded up to 45 minutes video and then the phone was full.

Could you connect the SSD to the phone and direct the apps to save the data there in real time? Bypass the phone storage

I'll be curious to see if Apple increased the corner radius on the back camera plateau to minimize the chance of flaking the anodizing off of the edges.

I expect that when JerryRigEverything gets ahold of the iPhone 18 Pro, we'll find out.

Will you buy an Apple Watch?
