One of my hold outs for an updated iphone is to have D2Cell capability with Starlink at Sea. Might be a few years away and may be cost prohibitive over ship's Starlink rates anyway. I did a Grok query to see what is available now:
Apple's built-in satellite features The iPhone 18 Pro Max (released September 18, 2026) supports the same Apple satellite services as iPhone 14 and later models:

Official specs and the Apple event did not add seamless 5G NR-NTN satellite data or "works from your pocket without pointing" as a new hardware capability. Pre-launch rumors about the C2 modem enabling that did not appear in the announced features or band lists.
GPS (and other GNSS) is standard for location and is separate from these two-way satellite communication features. Verizon specifically Verizon does not offer native Starlink D2C the way T-Mobile does with T-Satellite. For iPhones, Verizon points customers to Apple's satellite features. Verizon has its own limited satellite messaging on some Android devices (via Skylo) and is partnered with AST SpaceMobile for future direct-to-device service. It has declined a Starlink MVNO-style deal.

Verizon customers can optionally add T-Mobile's Starlink T-Satellite service as a paid eSIM add-on (~$10/month) on compatible iPhones (generally iPhone 13 and later). That gives Starlink D2C messaging and limited data as an extra line, not as part of the Verizon plan or Apple hardware.

Summary: On Verizon you get Apple/Globalstar satellite texting and emergency features out of the box. You do not get built-in Starlink D2C. You can add Starlink separately via T-Mobile's add-on if you want it.
