Hi,

I am french and live in the Philadelphia area. I know that Atlantic Bird 3 is broadcasting some french channels. I'd like to watch them. But I don't know wether I can receive them or not.

Can a satellite dish see the satellite, is the satellite too weak ? to low on the horizon ?

Do one of you already tried to receive 'non crypted' channels from this satellite in Philly area ?

What is the required size of dish ?

Any information from your expertise will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to you in advance

Regards,

Patrice

I presume you looking for French from France? Your question might be more appropriate in the FTA area. There are a number of FTA channels easily visible from your latitude that broadcast, but as Derwin notes you will need a larger dish than regular subscription satellite.

To answer your question about Atlantic satellites, Philly is just a little bit east of me regarding longitude, and the best I can do is 15W so far. However it looks like there are some C-Band channels that if you are lucky might be available to you from the Panatlantic beam. Your dish would be pointed very close to the horizon.

It would be a good question for the FTA readers to see if anyone has managed to hit AB3. You might want to see if the moderator would transfer your question over there if that is possible.

I do not think that you can get AB3, I am a little east of you and AB1 is my farthest East sat that I can reach. Maybe if you have a clear LOS and live on a hill, and you flip the dish upside down, maybe, but I doubt it.

I can see clearly . . .

Here are some eastern satellites.
The column with elevation suggests that you might have some "straight at the horizon" shots, but there's a chance...
Next move would be to choose one, and look it up on Lyngsat.com and see if that bird has any programming aimed at North America.

Sorry for the old bird names... but the locations are what matter!

edit:
There's also a little French on the 97º Ku bird.
