ATT has been soliciting in our area to sign up homes for the new fiber
optic Internet/phone/TV service. I signed up based upon promises of 18
mbs of speed (that is very, very fast)and have been dealing with their
installers and customer service. I cannot recommend this service.
First, they are not wired fiber optic to homes, rather they have
terminals every few streets--so the Internet/TV fiber optics then
transfers to your old phone lines, which is not as fast as Verizon,
which has fiber optics directly into the homes.
Secondly, the 'registration agreement' that they require you to read
and approve (reviewing from their tiny laptop)
in the middle of installation process in order for them to
complete the installation, only guarantees speeds of 'up to 10 mbs' to
the terminal locations--not to your home, so you are not guaranteed
any particular Internet speed to your house and computer--only to the
centralized location down the street where the fiber optics ends.
Finally, ATT has two separate units installing the phone portion and
the TV/Internet portion--and they seem to be 'at war' with each other
over who is supposed to do what--there is a lot of finger pointing
within the company going on when they mess up. I have had four
different installers over 3 days until I just gave up!
