Away and not receiving some locals.

I currently am a DirecTV sub. My zip is 10014 in NYC. I am currently am on vacation at dads in Florida. I brought my receiver with me so we could catch the Yankees while i'm away. Anyways, everything seems fine EXCEPT I can't get WPIX CH11 and WWOR CH9 along with some other locals. My Major Network stations ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX are fine(HD one's to in the 390's)

So long story short. getting 727 Not available in area. Lets use WPIX & WWOR as the examples... I can understand not getting the High Def feeds on those but thought I would get the standard ones for those... Any thoughts? I visited Delaware one time and brought my receiver and they all worked fine. Any thoughts?

Both the SD and HD feeds of NYC stations other than the major networks are on spot beams. You could probably receive them from 100-200 miles away, but not from Florida.

Thanks Bob for the reply! I do understand the spot beam issue however, I thought it would say searching for Sat(it does for the HD) but since I was getting a 727 on the SD station I thought something was wrong. I'm sure your right though.

You are getting a 727 because you are receiving a channel on the same frequency as the channel in New York. One of the reasons why DirecTV uses spotbeams is to be able to re-use frequencies in different parts of the country, because the spotbeams won't interfere with each other. So as an example, if there is a NY station on transponder 5, and you move the receiver to somewhere else and tune to the channel, the receiver will look at transponder 5. If it sees a channel, it will check to see if it is the correct New York channel and since it won't be the correct one, it generates the error message.
