For the benefit of eveyone here are two links to get Azimuth and Elevation. This one is a geographical map (an approximation).
http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/rain1.shtml

This one is program that needs to be downloaded.

If you know any other link, you may post them here. Thanks.

Dumb question time....

I'm really confused. I thought 61.5 was azimuth, and that my dish would be pointing north east.

Now I'm thinking almost due south. Can someone help me out? I'm in Winchester, KY 40391. My install is Thursday and I want to have a pole set already that will allow the dish to be pointed correctly. Thanks,

Geno

It depends on your location...

Look at this link for description: http://astrosun.tn.cornell.edu/courses/astro201/alt_az.htm

This site will tell you the azimuth and elevation. Jut type in your lati/lon and the satellite longitude.

http://perso.numericable.fr/~gjullien/satellite.htm

to find lati/lon go here:
http://www.zipinfo.com/search/zipcode.htm

zipcode = 40391
Latitude=37.9696 (North)
Longitude=84.1467 (West)
Satellite 61.5 West

On 12/17/03
Azimuth 141.14
Elevation 46.5

61.5 is the longitudal axis or location of the satellite. The satellite is 61.5 degrees west of Grenwich, England and directly above the equator.

Azimuth of the VOOM Dish..

I see stated that the VOOM satellite is located at 61.5. Am I correct that this would also correspond to the azimuth of the VOOM dish as well? If 0 degrees is due North and 90 degrees would be due East then that would make the VOOM dish pointing about East-North East? Or are my calculations wrong here?

I thought I was asked when I signed up if I had a clear view of the southern sky.

I was hoping to use an existing pole that I had my D* dish on which was at an azimuth of 213 and elevation of 44.

Have I got my figures wrong regarding which way the VOOM dish will be pointing?

Thanks for your input..

Rick

Look at this thread, the third post from top... to find your azimuth and elevation.
