I don't have a system yet - I was about to pull the trigger today (early Xmas present), but then I saw your post. I understand from others on this board that the 4 HD nets (plus PBS) out of Boston are not a problem for people in the Los Angeles area to receive. Those are the only stations I'm really interested in - I'll get the majority of my programming from Dish. I'm assuming that when your report says "North US Beam", I'm geographically SOL - is that correct? BTW, thank you very much for these reports, they are greatly appreciated.

I can only report on what was reported to me. I'd check with some of the people in your area to see if they can get this TP.

What I really need is a list of the Non-California Beams and the Non-S.Florida beams... I would then combine the two and change the descriptions to match this. As North US beam really isn't correct as I can see all 82W beams just fine in South Louisiana.
 
I'm in Los Angeles and can report that ABC-HD Boston is gone as of a couple days ago. Also, CBS-HD Seattle disappeared, as did Global-HD. That leaves those of us in the southwest US with CBS, NBC and FOX Boston in HD, and only ABC-HD of the four major networks from Seattle. Also, of the major Canadian networks, only CBC-HD is left.

On the upside, SN-HD and TSN-HD have made a return.

Not enough of a reason to stay on as a subscriber; my cancellation to Bell is effective as of 12/21.

By the way, there are some specialty channels that have come and gone, but I never watch them, so I haven't paid much attention to these changes.

Here in Phoenix I just can't get enough channels to warrant keeping BEV. I really liked the Boston channels, but I guess I'll pull the plug. Anyone need a receiver?

What TP's on 82W are missing in California? What size dish do you have?

I've posted re this topic on other threads. It's the same old problem everybody in the southwest US has with the crappy Directv satellite. I'm lazy and don't feel like going through the Lyngsat chart again, but basically, it's the odd transponders on 82 from the Dirctv bird -- #s 1, 5, 7, 9, 25, 27, 29, if I recall correctly. Although I'm currently using a conventional Dish500, I've reported in the past on purchasing a 90cm dish with an Invacom LNB. It briefly helped me get SN-HD many months ago, but the wonderful people at Bell apparently tilted the beam away from my area and I lost what little signal was reaching me.

The bottom line is there is absolutely nothing one can do receive these signals down here. You can't amplify or enhance a signal that is just not there.

Oh well...

Here in the Tucson area, I have a 30" dish with an Invacom QPH-031 aimed at the 91 satellite. There is just no signal there from the DirecTV bird. The missing channels did come in marginally back around August or September, but it was only for a week or so. I really miss both PBS-E and PBS-W, BBC-World, and many others. The only reason I don't drop BEV is the hope that one day (soon) the missing TPs will come back.

I am in southern California (Desert Hot Springs) and the following transponders do not come in here:5,7,8,9,11,12,21,24,25,27,29,31
All others have signal strengths between 65 and 80 using a 24" dish for 82 only. I am going to try an 18" when I get time to do it and will report that if anyone is interested.
Several weeks ago I was getting CBSHW (822) on transponder 13 but now I no longer get it as it has moved to 31. You do not give this change in your report. Was it made at an earlier date or is my info incorrect?

Thanks.. I've updated them as Non SoCal beams on my uplink program. I will combine them with a list of Non SoFL beams when the data is available from a South FL user.

My question is to the long time BellExpress VU 82W viewers, was the no signal issue also here when it was just Nimiq2 at 82W? Or did it happen when the D* bird was slid into place with Nimiq2?

They could be received, but always operated at lower power due to the damaged solar panels - so the signal was always weaker than it should be outside the center of the beam.

The current issue is moving the D* bird from 91W to 82W to work in parallel with the old bird and conserve power on the crippled Nimiq2.
 
No, Digiblur, that's the irony for those of us down here. We were fine when there was just one satellite at 91 and one at 82. It's when Bell tried to help everyone out with the additional satellites that we lost our channels.

What really ticked me off was they could just as easily have made more logical moves. That is, they could have moved PPV, French language, and other more esoteric types of programming to the Directv satellites, and left the core programming such as the major Canadian & US networks, plus the sports channels. It seems that they went out of their way to make things difficult for us; as if they were actually forcing us to quit as "illegal" subscribers. I can certainly understand their not being able to officially sanction US subscribers, but for crying out loud, we've got money in our hands that we're waving around and they're essentially saying, "We don't want it." All they had to do was make a logical shuffle of the transponders and we would have been fine, but they chose not to do so.

I know, I know, someone will post about how American subscribers are the antichrist. That's fine, just go ahead...
