Can anyone tell me if there is an advantage to buying a receiver frombest buy as an upgrade, or just getting one fromDTV, im tired of used crap, I swear to god I am..I joined in May, got an old beat up box, added another DVR in June for 199 more and got another used machine..I want another one, but I am afraid to order from DTV site...If I order it from best buy Will I get a newer model? also WIll I own it?

Two advantages: you're buying new and you know what model receiver you're getting. You will not however own it, its still a leased box.

Costco sells them ~$50 cheaper than bestbuy and their box turn is pretty high so you're less likely to get an older model.

The one major advantage to buying from directv is that they might give it to you for free or a reduced cost.

Does apperance really make that much difference? In most cases you only see the front, the rest is in a cabinet or on top of something. I looks like you are talking about HR2x receivers which come with UHF remotes and on screen display so you don't even need to see the receiver. As long as the receivers is working correctly does new or refurbed really make a difference you don't own it.

The problem that I see is that you are paying a bunch of money up front only to possibly get a used piece of equipment. If they just give it to you at no cost then I see no issues with giving out the used equipment.

It would to me. I don't want some scratched up used piece of crap in my setup. I would buy from Costco.....

Refurbished/used makes a difference to me if some old component of the receiver fails, I have to get a new one, and I lose all my recordings.

Having a pair of the original HR20-100's and wanting to throw my remote control through the tv set at least twice a week, I cant say that the old ones are particularly sweet to have either... ;)

You know you can buy new or even newer remotes that may help you issue.

As to the remote responsiveness, let's see what 0x0368 software does for us. :)

I bought my HR23 online because that was the only way to get a new model.
