BIG 10 is BACK - A Deal Has Been Reached!

On 439 it still says "We continue to work around the clock with Fox to try to reach a deal on the Big 10 Network. We thank you for your patience." From that it sounds like they're still at least working on a deal. Even if it doesn't happen before game time today. I would think that if there was no hope of getting a deal done they would just have Fox/BTN slander there.

I don't think it was ever said that the agreement was long term. Everything that I had heard from Dish was that it was another short term agreement.

UPDATED Saturday, September 8, 2012 --- 11:30 a.m.
From Big Ten Network:
Big Ten Network (BTN) and DISH have come together to reach an agreement in principle for DISH to continue carrying BTN. We expect to finalize a long-term agreement soon and we thank fans for their patience.

Also, I just chatted with a CSR and got no offer of credits of any type. All I got was the standard cut and paste response about negotiations. And even funnier, [Big Ten] (with the brackets) was pasted into the boilerplate response. What a joke.

Folks (especially B1G / BTN fans) I think the time has come for all of us to realize it's over with DISH. The last 2 weeks you could see a deal was likely imminent as (beyond the usual pontificating by each side) there was no change in programming etc. But now, DISH has pulled down the BTN Alt Channels and removed BTN from their packages. That's a huge change and not one that is corrected soon. With Michigan (a huge market) on BTN today, the damage in lost subscribers for DISH will be irreversible in the fact that putting the channel back up in 2-3 weeks just won't make sense... the damage will have been done.

I'm SO ANGRY but have no one to blame but myself. My job situation will not allow me to change satellite providers (can't do contracts right now) and living in the country limits me to either DISH or Direct. Also out here, Internet is either 4G (I'm one of the lucky ones) or Satellite, both of which really limit streaming (or you pay a lot). So I'm pretty much out of luck. Such is life. But I realize now that for DISH, at least short-term, they're NOT going back. That's the way it is.

BTN, you had better get that agreement in writing. Well, since getting the deal in writing didn't do VOOM any good, you had better have Dish pay cash in advance or ensure the check clears. I predict we'll be back in this same situation in two weeks. By that time Dish will have the upper-hand in negotiations. We shall see...

Hate to say it because it's been a good ride, but this was the last straw. Yes, there'll be an ETF, but then again free NFL Sunday Ticket -- and Big Ten Network and full time HD RSNs -- makes it mostly worth it. Joining the dark side. :/ Live sports are really the only reason I have pay-TV and while I went with Dish 2-3 years ago because they appeared cheaper, not having the sports I want (or in HD) kind of defeats the purpose.

That was last week's showing that the deal wasn't long term.

BTN has yanked their side as well. The BTN2Go app no longer lists Dish as an authorized provider and when i tried to access it just now it showed I was an unauthorized user.

I tell ya what, it hasn't been that enjoyable here at work. People complaining to me about the channel dropping. Really? Do you honestly think I have control over this? It's frustrating for all.

I am one that likes college sports, only pro sport I watch is hockey, and enjoy the BIG network so am disappointed it is off Dish. I will re-consider my options, after a reasonable time, at least reasonable to me, to see if this gets resolved.
Been with Dish 9+ years so it will be hard to pull the plug, if it comes to that.

If you have a 2 year commitment shouldn't it be void if Dish no longer provides the programming you expected?

It should be void but it isn't. They are allowed to remove any programming they want at any time and we have no recourse besides paying an etf. We are required to keep paying every month but they can change anything they want at any time from programming to plan costs to receiver fees. TV contracts are extremely one sided.

There will be a lot of unhappy Michigan fans today. Hopefully they get it back today or before next weeks games but I have no faith in Dish when it comes to disputes.

Well you have have to understand that Dish is giving you hundreds of dollars worth of equipment and labor for free. In order to have that you need to sign a contract staying with them for 2 years so they can make their money back. Channels come and go all the time so they place that in the contract so you can't leave if a channel is dropped. It makes sense to me.
