recently I have been experiencing a black screen on my HWS & wireless joey's.
I change the channel & the screen is black. The screen shows the "live tv" but no picture
on the HWS's I can usually get the picture back by going to the guide & selecting a channel, even the same channel that was black.
But on the wireless joey's, sometime that works but other times I have to reboot the joey and even the associated HWS.
Any ideas?

Some wifi routers can cause issues when the hopper is connected to wifi. Also if the wifi router is within 15ft of the access point for the Joey's it can cause issues.
And weren't you having similar if not same issues earlier this year?

I have also noted this but it only lasted about 20 seconds. It seemed like perhaps the hard drive had entered sleep and was spinning up because the message on the screen said "Refreshing".

Now that I read this again, my explanation does not really make sense even to me!

But I have noticed long pauses with black screens on our wireless Joey 3 when going from a recorded program to live TV - we do have a wireless Joey Access Point (HIC?) between the Hopper 3 and the Joey 3.

router is not within 15' pf access point.
The previous problem was that when trying to access recorded programs on the "other" hws, I got no option to stop the play back.
I have 2 hws, each has a wireless joey associated.
That problem seems to be resolved for now.

I get this screen (see below) a few times per day on both live and recorded programs. It usually lasts <5 seconds. Anyone recognize this?

Try unplugging your router for a little while and see if anything changes. Or alternatively you can turn off bridging on the hopper. If that resolves it then you'll need to find a way to hard wire your hopper with ethernet or a hic.
Other than that, not sure why it would be happening.

I had some black screens about a week ago, it seemed to happen on the upper channels. They didn't last long or I would switch channels and go back the picture would be there.
I remember something about sunspots causing this issue in the past.
