Granted, it's very little data to go on. But I've done some trends on these figures. If the rate of growth of BD over HD-DVD in the first 2 weeks of January continued for the rest of January, BD is outselling HD-DVD today by over 4 to 1. And cumulative sales since inception, at that rate, would put total BD unit sales exceeding HD-DVD.
I seriously doubt that BD is outselling HD-DVD by over 4 to 1. A quirk of too little data over too short a period. Just two data points, really. But it will be very interesting to follow. If any sort of BD lead continues thru the first quarter, it will be very bad news for HD-DVD. After that, more major releases will be coming out on BD exclusively, more titles, and perhaps better BD players. Will BD have enough of a good run thru the summer to be well in the lead for the Xmas shopping season?
Or is it just enjoying a short term boost in popularity as the new kid on the block?
