BluRay outselling HD-DVD 2-1 and gaining!

Granted, it's very little data to go on. But I've done some trends on these figures. If the rate of growth of BD over HD-DVD in the first 2 weeks of January continued for the rest of January, BD is outselling HD-DVD today by over 4 to 1. And cumulative sales since inception, at that rate, would put total BD unit sales exceeding HD-DVD.

I seriously doubt that BD is outselling HD-DVD by over 4 to 1. A quirk of too little data over too short a period. Just two data points, really. But it will be very interesting to follow. If any sort of BD lead continues thru the first quarter, it will be very bad news for HD-DVD. After that, more major releases will be coming out on BD exclusively, more titles, and perhaps better BD players. Will BD have enough of a good run thru the summer to be well in the lead for the Xmas shopping season?

Or is it just enjoying a short term boost in popularity as the new kid on the block?

BD should out sell HD DVD because they apparently have more players on their side.

Warner has stated that they are making a profit on HD DVD's and will continue to produce them until otherwise.

It's very interesting, but perhaps a few dozen PS3 owners decided to purchase their first Blu-Ray titles while the few dozen or so HD DVD owners just weren't in a buying mode. Seriously, while I plan on buying a PS3 later this year...there are probably not enough of either player to make meaningful comparisons at this time.

Yep. January reports will be interesting. First quarter reports may be telling.

January is a dead month for HD DVD. They've got nothing coming out of any noteworthiness.... The fact that "Beerfest" is the big release should tell you something....

BluRay has Crank which isn't huge in my eyes either.

Universal needs to start bringing out the big guns soon.....

HD-DVD cannot take a month off. BD titles are going to start coming in droves and alot of them are going to be big titles. I think this is going to be the trend and it is only going to get worse for HD-DVD. There are some huge titles coming out for BD over the next 4 months. Cars, the Pirate movies , Casino (James Bond), the Spiderman movies, these titles are going to sell real well. You know all of the Pixar titles are going to fly off the shelves. Now if BD can just lower the price to around $22 per movie HD-DVD will be straining to see BD's taillights!

This is wonderful news.

I have a ton of HDDVDs (I have about 50 titles), but now I am not buying anything... There is really nothing new to buy (that is worth buying). I will probably end up buying a BR player (I was hoping on a good combo unit to come out by now). Content is king and right now BR has it. If Universal were to come out with Blu-Ray I would buy a player and never look back at HD DVD.
