Just a small tidbit was posted today on Engadget that might be a clue as to the radical shift and software downgrade between the Boxee Box and the Boxee TV. Turns out that the Boxee TV is powered by everyone's favorite fourth place HTML5 browser.... Opera. Which to me explains why the Boxee Box software has been dismissed into Maintenance patching. It was based on Mozilla. Opera is saying that they advantage of using their Opera Devices SDK is that porting apps over to the Boxee TV should be easier and would require less work on Boxee's part. We shall see... the proof will be in the software pudding so to speak.
