That is one sweet card!!

I've been noticing and enjoying all the boxing that is showing up all over the place.
FoxSports 1 is doing the smaller Golden Boy fights these days just about every week. And since it is in HD on both D* and E* we can all enjoy them.
BeIN Sports does some boxing, some of them are pretty good though not the big names.

And of course, there is SNY and a few other not very widely distributed or packaged sports channels that are having fights. Lots of them real stinkers with new and very old fighters, but some jewels show up now and then.

Cool...I'll set timers on Showtime and FS1 next weekend.

Don't forget Thursday nights "friday night fights" on ESPN2 while you're setting timers!! :)

I have a seek and record for 'boxing' set up and it gets them all. But one thing that happens is that I have it set to 'new' programs and all too often the undercard that Showtime Extreme has isn't marked as 'new' so it misses that one.

Just got finished watching the Hopkins - Shumenov fight. Very disappointing fight imo. I know Hopkins fights all seem rather boring, this one was a new low or high point in boring depending on how you measure things. That's about an hour I'll never get back.

It was interesting to hear the announcers saying phrases like 'tactical' and 'unagressive' when 'boring' was a better description. Frankly if it wasn't for the names, any lower level set of boxers that would fight that way would be castigated and soon disappear. Shumenov was more un-active than I've ever seen him. Hopkins was Hopkins, you just know that a fight with him in it is not going to be exciting. This one just followed that same path.

Fortunately there are other and better fights coming up.

why did you watch it ?

imo the man is a genius in the ring. he has been schooling younger fighters for 15+ years now that in it self is more exciting than most hours on the tube today or ever. the fact he clocked him in the 11th was icing on the cake. loved it

I kept thinking I'd actually see a fight. Didn't happen, even with the knockdown. You and I both know that if it wasn't for the names in the fight, all discussion would have been about how boring it was. Kind of like the Klitschko fights. You know he'll win, you know it won't be much of a fight.

was not bored for 1 minute in that fight. guess it is i like Bernard seen close to all his fights over the past 25 years 50+ of them for sure. he is so highly skilled he can still compete at 49 years old and be a champion. the object of boxing or any other combat sport is hit and not get hit. he does it better than most who have ever been in it. i've been a boxing fan for 57 years and seen them all in that time and he's a top 10 er easy.

don't get me wrong i too will watch a match with 2 men of little skill who are brave enough to walk to the center of the ring and just punch each other too. if one likes that sort of fight watch the Mexican boxing shows i do.

imo Klitschko biggest sin is he's not a American. if he was you would see him daily selling everything from M&Ms to a brand new Ford.

I happen to like Hopkins myself, and am really amazed at how he has stood the test of time. I don't know if I've seen all his fights, but I'm sure I've seen most of them. It is slick that he can be a champion at his age in this sport, but it doesn't make the fights all that fan friendly.

I watched another fight in the last few days with a couple of much lesser boxers, hadn't seen either of them before. One was a puncher the other was a boxer, no knockdowns, no high volume heavy punches and the boxer won handily. AND the fight was very fan friendly. Can't remember the name of either, it was on the last SHOBox.

You're probably right about Klitschko. America is so hungry for a heavyweight champion these days. But the fights would be just as boring and predictable.

I love the fight game because of the the action, and the Hopkins fight was awfully boring. BUT, that is what Hopkins wants. Don't get me wrong, he is THE BEST professional athlete in the world right now. NOBODY in their right mind would be performing at that peak level in a sport as tough as boxing, if you weren't a freak of nature... is TRULY IS and alien. But with that said, his fights are boring as hell.
