Just listened to Mike Francesa and it was announced that Ned Yost has been fired. Dale Syvlem (sp), who is the third base coach takes over. Sorry for the spelling, I don't know how to spell his last name.

This is CRAZY!!! The Brewers are tied for the wildcard with two weeks left and they fire their manager??? I can see them doing it AFTER the season IF they missed the playoffs, but NOW??? This smacks of desperation!!

There you are, ramy.

Care to respond to my post in the NCAA Football thread? I did it just for you.

(Let's just say a horrible nightmare was almost relived.)

I was out of town most of last week and the weekend.

I am glad they fired him. Last year and now this year
the team has collapsed at the end of the season. It
is up to the manager to make sure this doesn't happen
and sometimes a team is a reflection of their manager.
(was he getting tight and showing stress?). They needed
something to jump start them. One big mistake I think
he made was about 3 weeks or so ago, he had an oppurtunity
to get Sabathia and Sheets one more start for the year as
we had like 3 days off in a weeks period, but decided to
keep rolling the rotation. This was a terrible decision not
to give them another start (1 to 2 possible more wins)
Hopefully this will give us the spark that we need because
we definitely need something!

If the Brewers somehow go on to win the World Series, this firing will bring to mind two other situations:

1989: Michigan head coach Bill Frieder accepts the HC job at Arizona St, but intends to lead the wolverines into the NCAA Tournament. Bo Schembechler had other ideas, letting Frieder go and naming Steve Fisher interim head coach. Fisher and the Wolverines then went on to win the National Championship.

2000: The New Jersey Devils have the second best record in the NHL with about ten games left in the regular season. Head Coach Robbie Ftorek is fired, and Larry Robinson takes over to lead the Devils to the Stanley Cup.

The Wisconsiners have spoken!

'Twas a good move.

So what exactly is this unknown 3rd base coach and now manager going to do to turn things around that Yost couldn't?

Dale Sveum is hardly an unknown here in Boston. When he was the third base coach for the Red Sox, he was villified by fans and media alike for his poor decision making.

Let's put it this way, Dale Sveum would have never made a good air traffic controller.
