Crime paid for CBS Friday, as its dramas "Close to Home" and "Numb3rs" led the network to a ratings triumph.

CBS averaged a 6.4 rating/11 share in primetime, finishing a point ahead of NBC's 5.4/9. ABC came in third with a 3.9/7. FOX's 3.1/5 was good for fourth, beating out The CW's 2.7/5.

NBC scored a narrow victory in the adults 18-49 demographic, albeit with only a 2.4 rating. CBS was right behind at 2.3. ABC came in third with a 1.8, followed by FOX, 1.6, and The CW, 1.4.

With "Desperate Housewives" airing a repeat Sunday, CBS cruised to the top of the ratings, while FOX grabbed the lion's share of the 18-49 demographic.

CBS averaged an 8.2 rating/14 share for the evening, easily beating ABC's 5.5/9. FOX and NBC tied for third in households at 5.1/8, with FOX drawing more total viewers (its numbers may change some as live auto-racing coverage bled into primetime). The CW was well back at 1.3/2.

FOX scored a win in the 18-49 demo with a 3.9 rating. CBS took second with a 3.4, followed by ABC, 2.9, and NBC, 2.4. The CW managed only a 0.7.

On Saturday, CBS was first in households with a 4.3/8, though FOX's "Cops" and "America's Most Wanted" (4.2/8) had a few more viewers. NBC averaged 3.5/7 and ABC 2.7/5.

"American Idol" kicked off its main event Tuesday in a big way, laying waste to the other four broadcast networks in the ratings.

FOX scored a 17.0 rating/27 share for the night, better than the total of the other four networks. CBS was the best of the rest at 6.2/10, followed by NBC at 4.8/8. ABC averaged 3.7/6 and The CW 1.5/2.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 11.5 rating was again better than the others' combined numbers. CBS took second with a 2.5, followed by NBC, 2.1; ABC, 1.6; and The CW, 0.9.

CBS averaged a 5.9 rating/10 share for the night, with those numbers likely to change a little because of adjustments for live broadcasts. NBC's 5.5/10 was good for second. ABC finished third at 4.6/8, a little ahead of FOX, 4.2/7. The CW trailed with a 2.8/5.

CBS also led among adults 18-49 with a 3.4 rating. NBC took second with a 2.4, followed by ABC, 2.2, and FOX, 2.0. The CW drew a 1.5 in the demographic.

Overall, FOX won the night with a 9.5 rating/15 share, topping the 8.8/14 for CBS. ABC was a distant third with a 5.0/8, followed by NBC's 4.0/6. The CW was fifth with a 2.7/4.

FOX also won among adults 18-49, doing a 5.7 rating in the key demographic. CBS was second with a 4.2 rating and ABC's 3.2 rating was third. The CW moved up to fourth with a 2.0 rating, leaving poor NBC to hide its head in a fifth place shame with a 1.8 rating.
