I have an older, "non-cable ready" TV that I would like to hook up in my garage.

Can I use a generic analog cable box to receive the channels we currently subscribe to (expanded basic), or do I need a special box that is compatible with Comcast's services?

Yes, you'll get any all channels that are NOT scrambled/trapped, or in digital.
FYI, if you or a friend have an old cable-ready VCR laying around, this would work in lieu of a cable box.
(the actual VCR portion doesn't even have to work, just as long as the tuner portion does... ;) )
