After a pay cut from my job a few months back, I discussed my plight with a CSR and she was very helpful in assisting me with some credits, plus cuts to get by DISH bill reduced. One of those cuts was the Dish Home Protection Plan (DHPP). Now, my DVR 625 is acting like it may die on me soon. If and when it dies, can I use "DISH'n It Up" to replace it? I understand that it appears to be designed to upgrade equipment (not replace) and that I must do a 2-yr committment...but I'm curious to see what my options might be. I would like to avoid re-adding the DHPP, if "DISH'n It Up" can do what I need.

Thanks for all the input...I appreciate it. Another related question...if a customer does not have the DHPP and does not go the DISH n' It Up route, does the customer pay full price to replace a defective receiver? I went by my local Radio Shack today and they said a 625 DVR would be about $370.00.

DHPP is the only way for you to go if you have any intelligence. It will only cost you $5,99 for one month no shipping charges and you can cancel as soon as repair is completed . There is no rule stating that you have to subscribe for a minimum time period.
If you still insist on spending money DISH does have refurbished receivers that they will sell you as replacements with a shipping charge.

That would be one of the worst investments EVER considering you could get an HD DVR for the same or less money...IF you are bent on spending money needlessly. Do DHPP and be done with it.

I've had customers call me when a rec goes bad and I always mention the diu option. It doesn't matter if your 625 is defective or not...Dish isn't going to charge you anything extra if the 625 is defective. You can probably upgrade to a 622 for no charge....doesn't matter if you sub to HD or not, if not they add what they call the "hd enable fee" which is nothing extra. They'll install a 1000.2 antenna plus the 622 which has more record capacity and a built-in off-air digital tuner and you can also add an external hard drive to a 622 ( requires a one-time $39 fee). Hope this helps.

I'd go this way

If you go this way when times get better you can get an HDTV and then have an HD system with HD programming.
