hi
I finally got my motor and figured out how to make it move. I feel stupid after I figured out all you have to do is put the satellite in and push the button. I was trying all kinds of things to program the already programed satellites in. Anyway, I can only get G 10 and t5. They both come in in the 80's and 90's. I have a pansat 5000, winegard 36'' dish, and a sg2100 motor. I used g10 for my true south. My zip code is 95062. my latitude is 37. The elevation angle was off a degree or so, but I couldn't figure out how to get it any closer. It should be right accross from the latitude I think? What should I do to get more satellites. Thanks

the elevation on the motor should be the same as your latitude (in your case 37). Once you have your true south tuned in, the rest should fall into place.

found out your longitude is 121.9W....so your true south is actually between G10 (123) and Echo 121 (121)...so it is a little off. If you have USALS, what people have done is with the motor at zero, put in your latitude & longitude and then move the motor to the nearest true south and then aim dish :)

This may be a dumb point but I found I was only getting "part of the arc" because my pole wasn't plumb. You could get a few stations, but the more you moved left / right the more the error in plumbness grew.

Just a thought.

can only pick up two stellites

The post is plumb. I use 11/2 water pipe, so it is strong and won't flex. I haven't changed the motor to true south yet, going to do this weekend. You would think that with the motor off by only a few degrees that I would be able to find another satellite by bumping the dish a little. I followed Pete's advice and planted the dish near to the ground,so all I have to do is haul everything,(tv, and receiver), outside and start playing around. although, I hate to mess with the dish since I get all the channels on G10 so well now.

Don't feel stupid. I had my receiver for like 4 months before I happened and this forum and Ice fixed me up. I work as a computer admin and am good when it comes to figuring this stuff out. I has use to have some C band stuff in the mid 90s and still had problems with FTA and digital Ku.

Good luck and keep plugging away.

I moved the motor a few degrees to true south 165'. I did have to reset the dish. It was still on G10. should I of move the dish to G10 then reset the dish even though it is coming in good? It would change the arch. Is G10 my true south? Echo 121 seems to be closer?
Thanks

EchoStar 9/Telstar 13 or Galaxy 10R can be used as they are the same distance away from your true south (122w) :(

maybe my 11/2 post wasn't as strong as I though! We had a big wind storm and it moved all over the place. I just installed a 4'' pipe loaded with cement. If it wasn't Christmas eve I could check it out this afternoon. My wife won't let me play with it. Will let you know if I have it reght this time. Also, the post wasn't as plumb as I had thought.

Well, I finally go it. Thanks for all the help. I'll write more about what I did, but would like to know how to get the dish to move to Amazonas. What am I going wrong? I was able to program Ia-8,but no matter what I do can't get Amazonas. Better go to work! I am glad that I am not being paid for doing this! My hourly wage would not be very high and my employees would quit. One has told me she won't shout out numbers any more.

May need to use 1.2 to get there, sometimes USALS will not work for the extreme east and west satellites..........

I was able to get amazonas by motor to it. Thanks pbs! But the dish will not go back to it. I scanned the tp's and got 18 channels so I tahought that I was set. Is there anything that I can do?

In antenna set up make sure to hit STORE in the 1.2 screen And you may have to number the position, on my Forten Lifetime its at the top of the screen "Current Position" , push left or right then come down and hit STORE that saves the position #. Use any number.
