I noticed the same tuner difference with my CS8000 . The Manhattan and Solomend both pull in the same signal better.

I have given away my Coolsat 8100 to a SatelliteGuy who has a 12 foot dish. I'm pretty sure that he won't have any troubles with getting those channels

Yes 12 footers do have an edge Everything ever thrown at mine has worked.
