Well, that conversation took a turn. I'm not feeling the love down here in Florida! :D

I hope my picture quality is good with cable, but if it isn't I will tell em to take it back that day. I will find out on Saturday. :yes

As I said in my opening statement, I love DTv and Tivo, but I'm just frustrated with costs and limited HD offerings. Hopefully in the future they will have their FCC problems with Local Channels ironed out, they will change their pricing structure with the DVR's, and they will have their new sats up offering more HD signals. I'm stoked about switching to cable because I hate when a company tries to stick it to you and is arrogant enough to think their customers will fork over the dough and don't have any options. Kind of like the cable company use to be.

p.s. I'm not lying or taking recreational pharmaceuticals, I only do that on Friday's! :bounce

Also I read somewhere that ESPN only broadcasts in 720 because there is too much action and a higher res, like 1080, doesn't look good. True? Not true? I don't know, it sounds reasonable.

Thanks Mike.
Liberty and HD for all! :usa

i am not saying 1080 I I am saying 1080 P

And in with our local cable.
1. Loosing a lot of the stations that are on satellite.
2. Paying more a month for less channels.
3. Getting cables poorer Picture Quality.

Can't see any gain there.

1.. loosing alot, a cable company 5 miles from me has all channels directv has, PLUS a buch of the below channels

if there line came in my area id be with them in a heartbeat

I absolutely love when people say my receivers don't work. I have had an r-15 since December and I have not had a problem with it yet. I have had the h-20 since January, and agsin, no problems. It is a poor musician that blames his instruments. It may boil down to two facts:

1. My installer knew what he was doing and installed my dish correctly.
2. I know how to work the equipment.

I think the people here that bash D*, E*, or their cable are just looking for free stuff. God forbid you pay for anything. I lost my picture for two minutes the other night because of very heavy thunderstorms, I did not call D* for 3 free months of HBO. If you don't like your service, drop it. If you don't drop it, shut up. Nobody cares about you.

you must be smoking something ... even directv has admitted their guide is fouled up and series links do not work correct and that you can not record shows on diffrent channels that are same show

What is the name of that cable company? Sounds good compared to ours.

I'm with you completely. No REAL problems either, other than the short term audio nuisance on Dolby for HD locals - which they fixed in short order. I surely didn't even think of picking up the phone and ask for $100 off my service or 12 months of HBO either. Anyone who's had sophisticated equipment knows hiccups are normal, but not a "problem". Firmware updates are common with most audio/video electronics.

Clearly the whiners you reference are part of the "what can I get for free for complaining" crowd. Some are also part of the "attorney-lawsuit" crowd - in fact, a few have made their lame "class action" statements here on this site regarding equipment. They infiltrate and run rampant on threads and boards - complaining and sarcastic over and over. The interesting thing is that I've read the exact same type of comments in Dish and cable threads.

This is just a sad "illness" in our society - agree or else prepare to be verbally assaulted...and by the way, I want everything for free. Here are just a couple of recent cases in point:

Any lawyers available to consult if this situation would qualify? :hungry:
Things have gotten quite pathetic. These boards used to be great product and service informational resources, but they've been turned into "whine and gripe" sessions. It's sad really...

NOWHERE DID I SAY COMPLAIN TO GET FREE STUFF, STOP YOUR ASSUMPTIONS

AND LEARN TO READ THE CONTEXT OF THE DISCUSSION

AND I HATE TO INFORM YOU, THE PROBLEMS DIRECTV IS EXPERIENCING WITH THE R15 ARE NOT HICCUPS, THEY ARE MAJOR PROBLEMS - CAN NOT RECORD A SHOW RELIABLY IS PATHETIC, AND IS THE 1ST REASON FOR A DVR .... SO WHEN IT CAN NOT BE DONE, THAT IS NO HICCUP THATS A HHHUUGGEEEEEE PROBLEM

AND BY PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE IN MASS IN AMERICA, WHO ARE NOT DETAIL PEOPLE, WHO DO NOT DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING, AND HAVE ALLOWED CORPORATIONS TO SCREW THEM OVER, ONCE YOU GIVE THEM AN INCH THEY WUILL TAKE A MILE .. IS GETTING WORSE, AND I FOR ONE, "OLD SCHOOL" WILL NOT STAND FOR IT, AND WILL ADDRESS THE COMPANYS NEGATIVELY UNTILL THE RIGHT THE SHIP ............. AND WHEN THEY DO GOOD I WILL PRAISE THEM

I MEAN 2 SAT PROVIDERS AND 50% OR MORE OF THEIR EQUIPMENT/INSTALLS/WORKERS/AND SO ON .. NOT BEING COMPETENT .. IS A DIRECT RESULT OF CUSTOMERS WHO DO NOT DEMAND THE BEST FROM THE START

I love Dtv but I do not love the $500 for the HD DVR and 2 year HD commitment. My local cable charges zero for the HD DVR, I don't own it, if it breaks I have nothing out of pocket, and they are giving me half price on all services for the first year with no contract! That is another $500 I will be saving. :hungry:

I'm out! I'm taking one for the Team! Dtv has gotten to big for their britches! Lease-Smeesh! I'm sending a message they will have to hear! I called today to talk about cancelling and supposedly their computers are down for an upgrade. I wish I could do my computer upgrades in the middle of the day. :D

If they will give me the HD DVR free or cheap I will stay, if not its Churn and Burn baby! :neener

It's like the credit card companies, play one against the other and ride the wave until it breaks, then get on another wave! Viva competition!

Mike

When we moved to our new house and had many things to do,we had Adelphia installed,we had put our D* account in suspend mode.I had cable in the early 90's (with Cox)and it was a the worst few years of watching tv ever, when they went down it wasn't rain fade it was down,5 hours to maybe a day our so.Adelphia was here right on time, the installer went out of his way to do a fantastic job,we had to have all 6 drops checked,he replaced F connectors with new ones(first were installed were done by a scrimmping sub)did readings on all drops, changed out the old splitter, found that two of the drops needed to be amped(came by the next day and installed that)then hooked up the 4 SA 8300 HD DVR's,all for 49.95 install fee(tiped him 50.00 for such a good job)
This was only going to be a temp service though as we planed on taking D* out of suspend mode the begining of March. We started to think that maybe since this is a "NEW" house,we would try a "NEW" sat service,E*,with more HD.Contacted them, and a local installer, about having the service installed.Started right off the bat getting different stories as what we need.Dish says that we need two dishes, installer says that we need 1000.Installer says we can have 2 DVR's to feed the tv's but that only two would be HD the others would be SD.Dish says the same, but that all 4 would be HD,asked how I would feed the other two Tv's from the DVR and the responce was to run componet cables, right 40-50 feet from one and about the same for the other,it goes on and on for so long that I had to put them on hold so that i could get a shovel.Thats was enough for one day as I wanted to eat dinner before I went to sleep, said I would think about it and call at a later date.Got a call last night form Dish CSR(it has been a couple weeks since I talked to them)she was from India and spoke fairly well but I think that she spoke better than she understood, asked I could hold, was transfered to a "Super" who I assume was here in the states, tried to get me to go for the install up to the point when I told him I want what Adelphia had given me,4 HD DVR's and when the addition is done off the kitchen a 5th,His responce was"Cable is a better option for you,we can't give you 5 HD DVR's"-----------Thanks for your time. Now I do agree that both E*,D* have great service, probably slightly better than Adelphia, not by much, but these misleading stories, confusion, and limited equipment avalaibilty is crazy,I guess for now I will just have to keep Adelphia,at least there are 18 HD channels, until D* and or E* get this equipment/lease crap together

No...you don't.

In your posts, you clearly enjoy professing to be an expert on everything. I've been a customer of both Dish and DirecTV for quite a few years going back to 1992. Based on your rants, you can't tell me anything I don't already know about them. The difference in your perspective is that I won't die of a stroke over my view of the world.

Just what I'd expect. Thanks for proving my original point.

Sure wish life could return to people helping people, instead of at each other's throats - but that's not going to happen obviously. What a huge waste of energy & time through all the negativity.

It can. Go help them and stop whining and hijacking a thread to complain about others complaining.

Amazing. In post 65 I get bashed for asking a question/making a statement. As Verbano said, if you want to help others do it and quit complaining yourself.
