Not to sound like a fanboy, but my family loves Amazon's products. We have an Echo Dot, 2 Fire Sticks, Prime Video. BUT we also use Apple stuff too. I don't feel constricted by any one company's ecosystem.
Which is why I don't normally voice my opinion about Amazon hardware, it is my bias and rant.
I have a Prime sub but avoid their hardware for personal reasons.

I’m quite happy with my two Rokus, my Echo, my Echo Dot, my Fire stick, my two CM DVR+s and the various “smart” disc players I have. And once I get around to blocking my Sony UHD TV from “phoning home” I’ll be tickled pink about that one too.

I see little point to brand loyalty.

The only advantage to using one brand is that SOMETIMES they all work together

I refuse to buy an Amazon FireTV!

I have had Roku's since we got high speed out here in 2013. I just recently bought a Fire Box. I like the Roku better, but it did give me access to Dish Anywhere. The only issue I have had with the Fire Box. Depending on the app, it will kick out of a movie and I will have to re-connect. My Roku's do not do that. Buying the Fire Box does give me access to many channels the Roku doesn't have and vise versa.TCM is one. There is no Roku app for that. Others like Epix, HBO, Starz, etc are on both.

Does anyone with Fire sticks/TV's have trouble with it kicking out of certain apps? I see many of you use them. Love both units, the Roku & Fire TV, but my Fire TV kicks out of some apps. Any idea on how to fix it?

I'm apparently not as wealthy as you. :( Hell, I'd love to drive around a Maserati Ghibli like I see going to my daughter's high school. Only $74K! Ton of Range Rovers too: list price $88K.

I’m talking about a streaming box, not a vehicle. And I’m waiting until I have the money.

Which is why I’m inclined to buy a home security system that works with Alexa, since Dish abandoned that sphere.

Since I have Alexa, I’m unlikely to buy the Google knockoff.

I just got to settings, device or my fire tv and restart the fire tv stick. Then my apps work again.

Not on any of the apps I use my Firestick with. DA is the buggiest app on the device in my experience. I have Rokus on all the other TVs, and I have found them to be buggier lately than the FireStick. Amazon may be an "evil company," so I only use them for things I cannot get locally/elsewhere (from hopefully less evil companies). I do not count their Video offerings in the evilness. That they saved The Expanse and picked up The Wheel of Time are good things in my book. As for their Kindle ebooks, Amazon actually has some of the most easily circumventable DRM in the business, so they are still my go-to source. I miss the good old days of Fictionwise, but those days are long gone.

FWIW, I have a box of Chromecasts, Chromecast 2s, and Amazon Firesticks that no longer get used after I tried out the Roku Ultra. I now have a Roku Ultra on all three TVs (all of which are also connected to Dish.)

I've found the Roku to be a superb platform for my subs to Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, as well as some misc other channels, and also playing from my USB sticks.

Roku doesn't do Dish Anywhere, doesn't support MPEG2 and doesn't support HD Homerun. Those are BIG fails IMO.
