Been awhile since the coolsat has been on....

turned it on last night to find 8888 on the display and no video :(

Tried unplugging overnight, holding power switch on back while holding combinations of the buttons on the front, still no joy

any ideas to revive? or do I have a boat anchor?

thanks

i've heard of it cycling through powerups ( and powering off ) but i haven't heard of this problem.
could be just a corrupted filmware , try reflashing back with the factory filmware

It was bought on eBay, but about 3 years ago, and it was working about a month ago when it was last powered on (and I had time to play with it)

The firmware is the straight from the factory, never been altered/updated

I did find a 'coolsat loader' and a copy of the factory firmware, but have not had any success with it connecting to the receiver, tried starting the loader with power on and then starting the download, tried starting the download then flipping the back power switch, neither method works....

thanks for any help....

its a timing thing
you will have to have it close to the pc so you can power on the coolsat and then start the download right after it took me a few times to catch it right .

Moose,

You got this off Ebay, and I bet that some sucker unloaded it because they couldn't figure it out to use as a pirate receiver.

They probably have some bad or conflicting channel data loaded into it. load the original factory software and a blank channel list. Hopefully that will take care of the situation for you. This happens sometimes when you purchase stuff off E-bay, but don't let that bug you with this item. You got an excellent receiver for FTA! There is always a way to doctor these receivers to make them work properly, regardless of what the person who had it before did to it.

I don't have a 6000, so this is probably a worthless message, but on my 8100, when you power it up, it first says something about "Loader" or something, and I *THINK* it does this when it's in it's mode where it can download firmware. What I'm getting at, is that if it says Loader xxxx first, then goes to the 8888 display, then the odds are you can fix it by having it download new firmware. If it goes straight to the 8888, then either the 6000 is different from the 8100, or else it has a problem with the loader program, in which case I think you have a more serious problem. Maybe some 6000 owners can comment on whether the things say Loader like the 8100 does.

Re the attempts to download firmware, are you sure that you selected download, and not upload? Ie the download/upload terminology is generally from the standpoint of the receiver, not the computer, so it's counter-intuitive.

Also, too late now, but it's nice to make sure you have the proper cable and serial capabilities by uploading channel data when these receivers are working, because serial communications are often frustrating if you have the wrong parameters, or wrong port number, etc, and with these new USB serial ports, it's even more troublesome sometimes.

One nice thing about the 8100, is that there is NO timing issues as mentioned above. With the 8100, you just start the program on the computer, and you can take your time with respect to turning on the receiver.

had about the same thing happen with a cool-5000, which is about the same animal as the 6000, now on mine here came home after had a big thunder storm an it had FFFF on front display an it didn't have any video display on tv, an no remote functions with remote but could see the light light up when pushing the buttons on remote.

what I did to fix it was, hook it up to compt with its rs232 cable, open up loader, an selected the factory bin, an selected run, then conect, then I power up receiver, when it said power receiver on an it took an fixed it. had to redo all settings, cause receiver was blank almost like a factory reset.
good luck hope it helps.

Sounds like you should reload the factory software. Also make sure you have the right cable. The 6000 uses a straight through cable (same as the 5000)
