If I'm not mistaken it is just a simple credit check (and not even a full one at that), so it would only go back 7 years, since that is how long things are supposed to last on your credit report. I think the things they are concerned about is not being delinquent on payments and I'm sure it doesn't hurt if you are a homeowner.
