D* seems to have changed the list for O&O area's or maybe made a cut &
paste error? The list looks like it should be for Fox and not NBC. I note the
Miami/Ft. laud mkt has been removed as well as other area's.
you can
check the other NETS by inserting the network of your choice in following
URL......../landing/***

Humm, I don't know.. but... I think I'll call the HDTV dept tommorow <G>

Hmmmmmmm...It shows Birmingham on all 4 lists, but NBC and Fox are the only O&Os in birmingham. CBS and ABC are not O&O. I wish I had a HD box and I'd call and see if I could get it all turned on.

Here is one that I put together right after ABC-HD was added - I'm pretty sure it's still accurate.

did anyone find out about this?
I DID!!!
I just spoke with my friend who works there and he said that they updated the website to show all the cities eligible for the local HD feeds when the new sats come up. At present, the same rules apply (as regards to DNS waivers) however, since the new sats are going up within the next month, they wanted to have everything in place for those who can receive the new HD local feeds. It does "not" mean that you can presently get all the locals in HD "right now"!

Well one thing I noticed that was interesting - St.Louis is now on ALL 4 lists of networks that are eligable for the HD feeds, but St.Louis was NOT on the list of the 12 cities that were going to be the first to get the local HD feeds, nor is it an O&O market except for ONLY FOX. Considering that it is DMA#21, I find it kind of surprising that it would be one of the first to go up. (NOT that I'm complaining)

If I cannot get a signal from the new Spaceway birds for the Chicago HD locals, I might have to consider moving to St.Louis instead... :D :D

If I not mistaking, I though I read on another forum that they were going to allow more than the first 12 markets to go up once Spaceway 1 is operational!? They just announced the first 12 markets in order to have some kind of starting point. Remember, Spaceway 1 has the capacity to launch 500 LIL HD channels by itself as well as about 50 National channels, so I wouldn't be shocked if they decided to add more cities to that Local HD launch list!!!

so what does these lists mean, that those markets are the ones that will be launched in HD when the spaceway sats are up? It seems strange that Birmingham (the 40th DMA) would be listed before many of the other larger DMAs, although I am not complaining, as I am too far out to get HD OTA.

So it's just coincidental that all the cities listed are cities where all the Fox Owned and Operated stations are located? Sounds a little fishy to me...it has to be a web-page editing error...

that's the fox O&O list, a copied webpage error, that is all. Those markets are not the NBC ones (at least not all of them).

Personally even though my contact works for Directv. I am a little perplexed about the validity of this list myself. I wonder if Fox has something to do with the selection of the other citites that are not among the first top 12!? Its really confusing! My advice to everyone is not look at this nickle for its face value. I think its safer for us tho stick to the original announcement of the top 12 DMAs and not make this webpage error concrete. In my opinion, somebody did a shabby job at D* and did not update the website properly! This is one time that I don't trust my friends explanation--- it just dosen't make any sense! :no

What are you talking about? That is just the list of stations owned by fox, not the stations which will have local-into-local on the new sat, which are 12 markets, and not specifically the top 12

Go back and reread my posts on this tread and you will see what Im talking about!
Also, if you look at D* website for ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS you will see that each page has the same cities sited to be eligible even though not all cities are among the top 12 DMAs.

I think the only test that will confirm/deny this is a sub in one of the cities that is new to one of the lists (Birmingham for example is new on the ABC and CBS list) and calling to get ABC and CBS activated.

I called because I live in Northern Virginia. I called up and the DNS "specialist" said that the only way I was eligible was if i physically lived in Washington D.C. I know I got the run around, but as I get most of my stuff over the air with little issue, I didn't feel like calling back.

hey guys, I am on the phone with the DNS guy right now, trying to figure this out, but this is JUST A ERROR, there was no change in the rules, and this was not a preview of the first dma's to get hooked up on the new sat. I am contacting the web department now, sorry guys to bust your bubble, as much as i would love the have all 4 in high def. it aint going to happen so as of right now those of us in the cleveland market, are going to get fox and that is it! hopefully this will be fixed in the next day or two!
