Diplexer question (Directv & OTA)

Would it be possible to use a standard 5-3000mhz wide range spilter to combine the directv and ota signals on the dish side as long as I use a diplexer (that spilts the sat signal from the ota signal) on the receiver side?

No, you must use a diplexer to combine the signals and another to separate them.

It gets trickier if you have the KaKu dish.

Well, that will make it tricky. I'll have to let others tell you if it is possible, as I'm really not up on diplexing OTA with the SWM LNB. I do know that running a separate coax for OTA will be a better solution.

Diplexing with the SWM LNB is a no no, as the SWM uses some OTA frequencies to function. You can diplex a traditional non-swm lnb however. jdspencer is correct regarding the seperate coax. It is the best solution.

You can easily diplex OTA and SWM. This is my setup. It is very easy to do and there is absolutely no problems with doing this. I have read here on this site that OTA and SWM do not share the same frequencies at all.

All that I can say is that I do it and I have never had a problem at all. Just make sure you use the right diplexer.

nutflush what diplexer are you using ....5-2300mhz?

I use Perfect Vision PVDP3 diplexers. They are 40-2300 MHz. They work great and even have power pass (although I have never attempted putting the Power Inserter after the diplexer).

As I previously said, I diplex my OTA and DirecTV SWM 5 LNB and never have had a problem. I have had this setup since SWM came out.
