Just out of curiosity. We have DirecTV for another 10 months in contract. If we pay the penalty (how much is it again?) and get out of the contract, does that action of paying up the fee and cacelling the contract go against our credit? Thanks for any info...

Todd

I think it's 20 dollars a month, so for you $200....no it won't have any effect on your credit. Only if you didn't pay would it effect your credit....

Paying an early termination fee does go against your credit score.
Why do you think it would ?
You want to get out of your contract early so you fullfill the agreement you agreed to and pay the early termination fee.

the only thing DirecTV can put on your credit report is if you don't pay a bill and it goes to collection. it doesn't show up that you've ever had directv or fulfilled or not fulfilled a contract if you are always up to date on your payments.
