You have room for scores of shopping channels. And yes I know that they pay you to carry those shopping channels. But you are making millions of dollars and you have put through a price increase. So couldn't you find some way to add Al Jazeera?

There are historic events happening as we speak in Egypt, but to get Al Jazeera's award winning coverage I am forced to try to watch their Internet live feed which keeps rebuffering, presumably because there is such demand for it right now given the events in Egypt.

its on free to air :)

But yeah I do wish it would be added as a news alternative. I watch it alot and they have some pretty good coverage of stuff (same with PressTV and Russia Today) :)

And next week, Egypt won't even be in the news.

Like mentioned, get an FTA receiver and dish.

I don't know anything about Free to Air. Not everyone on this site is a geek. By the time I could educate myself about what FTA is and get it installed, I will have already missed a lot of coverage. And I suppose that getting FTA equipment would be costly and right now I might not be willing to bear such a cost.

Why wouldn't the posters to this site support an addition to the diversity of programming on Directv?

Maybe because there are other things that people want on this site then Al Jazeera.

Sure, there are way too many shopping channels but as stated D* does not pay for them and actually makes money off them which helps to keep your bill down and more importantly helps them o reach the 150+ channels on the choice package.

That all being said, is something suitable to you offered on one of the international packages?
If so, you would just have to call D* and set an appointment for somebody to come out and install an international dish and then pay a much higher monthly bill. ;)

You said it "helps to keep your bill down" but they still mange to raise my bill every year anyway. As far as I know, Al Jazeera is not offered in any of their international packages. But even if it is, that would mean that I would have to pay even more money for it and my bill is too high already.

Chances are pretty good that unless they displace something already on 101W, they won't add any new SD content any time soon. It appears that DIRECTV is pretty much slammed for bandwidth at 101W.

Until the SD channels start falling like flies, try this: http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

Well, I have to agree with the OP. I have been watching it all day. Sure Egypt won't be in the news in a month or two (maybe) but the middle east is always a hot bed for news. Their perspective is different from ours, it's interesting to listen to.

I honestly don't see it coming to any US satellite or cable company anytime soon, but I would watch it if it was here. Can't get all your news from Fox....

well they moved "GodTV" from sat 101 to 103 as of the 26th....the 101 side is just a slate
so they could add something within a few weeks if they wanted to :)

Until the SD channels start falling like flies, try this: Al Jazeera English: Live Stream - Watch Now - Al Jazeera English
As I said in my OP, I am trying to watch it online but it was rebuffering a lot probably because the stream is in such demand right now. It is a little better right now however but if this crisis continues unless they can add more bandwidth I suspect that their Internet stream might continue to be problematic.

I realize that some people might want D* to add something else such as another HD channel. Well, to each his own. As a D* customer, I will ask them to add the programming that I want, and others can ask D* to add what they want.

And BTW, I did call D* and make my request for Al Jazeera and got the standard canned response about how they are always evaluating their programming and they appreciate my feedback. But I'm not holding my breath on this one.

You could probably get a FTA up and running faster than DIRECTV will add this one channel just for you.
As far as bear such a cost goes do you figure it's free for DIRECTV to add this channel ?

They are making record profits and take in millions of dollars. I'm sure that they could afford it better than I could. Besides, a channel like Al Jazeera would probably come very cheap and just to get on D* they might not charge at all.

You forget, they are making record profits while cutting back installer rates and implementing new back charges.

I suppose how we could get in to how they have to continually show profit increases for their share holders to stay shareholders and it gets more difficult as other companies like Verizon and AT&T offer TV but really, it boils down to one thing

Good old fashioned corporate greed.

So, unless they think they will lose money by not having it, I doubt they will ad it.
