So, I am currently scheduled to get DirecTV installed on Friday, but I am starting to have second thoughts. While DirecTV has a better deal: $50/month for 24 months on the Select Package (everything but taxes included), plus access to an Unlimited data plan on AT&T (my wireless provider), I am concerned about how well the DirecTV Everywhere Mobile DVR functionality will work.
Currently, I have Tivo which includes the ability to download any recording to a mobile device for offline viewing. My wife and I both use this regularly. From the limited documentation I can find about DirecTV's Mobile DVR functionality, it is not clear whether I will be able to download all recordings. It seems like some channels are not available for this functionality as well as certain programming on other supported channels. I obviously cannot test this prior to getting DirecTV installed and committed to the 2-year contract, so I am looking for guidance on how this functionality actually works.
If it is too limiting, I may be willing to consider Dish instead. While it would cost me $82/month to get the channels I want, if I can actually download any recording to my phone or tablet for offline viewing, it might be worth it.
Can anyone compare this functionality between the two services?
Thanks,
Ted
