Ohh good.... I need another reason to call retention anyway after all the price hikes and whatever. I think I can ride this wave to a new hopper 3 with no contract extension and a ton of credits with free starz/hbo and whatever.

How does Dish know what other providers are paying? I thought that stuff would be kept secret. Or does Dish willingly release what they pay?
Corporate spies;)

Interestingly enough, I called Dish last night to complain about losing the Russian channel, RKINO, on both of my accounts. On the account that is not impacted by the Media General dispute, Dish would only give me $5 off per month for three months, and I had to bring up the fact that KILM channel 3 has been missing from the Los Angeles locals for a long time just to get that much. On the account that might be impacted by the Media General dispute, Dish gave me $10 off per month for six months, and I did not even mention the Media General local channel. This could simply be a case of CSR roulette (it was a separate phone call for each account) or it could be a sign that Dish is expecting the Media General channels to be dropped.

Good luck with that.

If you are in LA, a Media General blackout will not affect you, Media General doesn't own any stations in the LA market. Same with Cox.

My CBS is owned by Media General & still on after the cutoff time - hope that means something positive.
Station's web page says: DISH UPDATE: Media General has granted DISH another short term extension and continues to work hard to reach a deal, so our viewers will not lose access to their favorite news, sports, entertainment, and other local programming.

This is what mine says:

Media General has granted DISH another short term extension and continues to work hard to reach a deal, so our viewers will not lose access to their favorite news, sports, entertainment, and other local programming.

On March 31, 2016, at 5:59 PM (CT), DISH's contract to carry WKRG-TV ("WKRG News 5") and WFNA ("The CW55") will expire. After granting DISH six weeks of contract extensions, we have yet to reach an agreement. We continue to work hard to reach a new agreement, however, as a trusted source for news and information, it is important to keep our viewers informed when a contract deadline approaches and a new agreement has not yet been reached. By law, if we do not reach an agreement, DISH can no longer carry WKRG News 5 and The CW55.

IMO, screw media general.

I was on MG's side until they started playing the classic propaganda games. That's when they lost it for me. I appreciate Dishs silence this time, and take it as a sign that they are the ones negotiating in good faith. I also noticed MG being called out a lot on FB. Seems people were not buying what they were selling. Few news pages showed the same response in the comments as well. The extension also points to MG having a weak hand in this poker game. Wonder if the acquisition may play a part?

I looked on the 2 locals here and got the same message. Doesn't say how long the new short term extension is.

I hooked up an OTA module on my HWS this afternoon and set it up. It found about 60 channels (including subchannels) from my rooftop antenna. I looked at each of them. I decided to delete all but the 2 Media General channels because there is no guide info except for channels alreadly available via satellite and almost all of it is SD programming I have no interest in watching. I set up a manual timer to cover the 3 hour Prime time period on the CBS station on a daily basis. I'll delete the recording each day if I see the satellite locals got recorded. I have an old Sony HD DVR I plan to plug back in if I need to watch or record the Fox channel.

I hope that we don't lose our channels, but 3 years ago, when LIN owned these 2 channels, LIN removed the channels for about a week. I want to be prepared.

The guide data for a lot of the sub channels will populate after the full guide download.

I thought it depended on the market whether Dish passed along the guide data. Of course, if Dish REALLY cared about the customers, there'd at least be an option to utilize PSIP information for the guide.

No new update on my local CBS website this AM. Same thing it said last night.

unfortunately for Rob and I, KRQE & KASA don't pass that info through like KOAT and some of the smaller channels do...

KRQE & KASA don't do PSIP at all? I'm pretty sure that's against FCC regs. Or are you saying the data doesn't show up on your DISH receiver (which the stations aren't responsible for).

If that's the Sony I'm thinking of, it won't work anymore. TVGOS gone. No way to set clock either.
