DISH FIRST TO OFFER TV SERIES IN 1080P RESOLU

Someone here brought up that dish might really sending 1080i/60 and since your set can accept 1080p/24 & 60 it just reports 1080p, while most sets report 1080i.

Don't be sorry. Please just share your secret config with everyone else here.

I have the exact same tv and mine reports 1080i. downloaded the beast several times and all the episodes and it is always 1080i for me.

^^ Sorry I should have clarified... Here's the theory for ya:
1080/60i Standard 1080i output of 722 for regular HD content.
1080/30p Possibly what 722 ouputs for The Beast if detects a Tv that accepts it (like yours). This could explain why all other users can't get it to work (not many Tv's accept this format because it's so unusual).
1080/24p Standard 1080p output of 722 for 1080p VOD movies (compatible with more Tv's because it's the Bluray standard).

We could finally solve this mystery if only your Tv could indicate if it's a 24p or 30p signal. Why dish would use 30p is an entirely different question, unless it's by accident.

mine works watched last night in 1080p tv does not display frame rate going through a 622 and nothing else all other HD from dish the tv shows 1080i

Hmmm ... well ... I unplugged my 722 yesterday for about 20 minutes. When I plugged it back in, I let it sit for another 20 minutes. I deleted episode 105 and started downloading it again. We'll see what happens this time ... wish me luck ...

rwalsh has told me he has purchased and watched 1080p24 VOD, I have not but I do pass the resolution test. Since I never see it do a resolution check for the beast download, I wonder if they are setting some flag after you buy a 1080p VOD and it uses it to determine what output resolution to use for the beast.

I have purchased and watched the 1080p stuff on 501 too. I have confirmed 1080p via my TV settings. If I go to the current 1080p VOD and do the test, my TV passes the test and I can confirm it.

The 1080p DishOnline stuff though, I have had no success with ...

darn, there goes my theory

thanks

I downloaded the episode 105 last night. It took about a hour to download. It was the first time I used my set at 1080p and it was gorgeous. I have a 42 inch Sharp and VIP 722

I was skeptical of rwalsh's claim but I started the download of episodes 102 and 105 last night and sure enough, when I view episode 102 I get 1080p24 (105 says another couple hours to download @2Mbps).

I wonder if there is any correlation between 1080p viewing and the date you started the download. My receiver has only performed the 1080p24 test once that I can recall, the first (and only) time I purchased a 1080p VOD.

I checked the HDMI test in diagnostics and it says my Samsung supports 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i which is wrong. My TV supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and not 480i. I suspect it's interpretation of the handshake flags is off by one.

When I try to download the Beast, it immediately says my tv doesn't support 1080p, probably using the erroneous handshake data. When I go to watch a channel 501 1080p, it outputs the confirmation message in 1080p and I verify it displays correctly. This method should be used for the Dish Online content too.

Well, I pulled the power plug on my receiver. Let it sit for 20 minutes, plugged it back in, let it sit for 20, deleted 105, redownloaded 105 ... and the results ...

Drum roll ...

Still no joy. Time to send an email to Dish ... again. !protest

started working on HDMI at my work and realized that they might be using the EDID info to determine if your tv supports 1080p24. Since I am going through my Oknyo 606 first I was hoping it was not sending the correct EDID to my 722. So I directly hooked up my Pioneer 5020 and downloaded THe beast episode 105 while bypassing my AVR. I Just finished downloading it and still 1080i:mad:

Email tech support too and of course they had no clue.
