With my 722 I can record 2 shows and watch a previously recorded DVR program at the same time. So will it be possible with the Hopper to record 3 programs at once, watch a DVRed program on the Hopper and also watch a DVRed program on the Joey at the same time?

From what we know so far, yes.

I also hope that in a 2 hopper setup they are smart enough to make the software updates to BOTH at the SAME time. (or I could see bad things happening if they aren't careful).

I'm also curious if you have 2 hoppers, will ONE sling adapter work to see stuff on either hopper.

Actually, in dual mode you can record 2 shows at the same time while watching 2 other DVR programs. I would hope that with the hopper/joey system you can record 3 and watch 3 other DVR programs at the same time.

So, do the Hopper/Joeys still respond to IR? It would royally suck if one couldn't use a universal remote with them.

Well let's see. Scott was told Harmonys/universal remotes will continue to work. So even if the remote does not do IR for sat, the Hopper must be capable of responding to IR signals.

I also confirmed this with the software lead, the Hopper still has IR receiving capability just like the 922. So universal remotes like the Harmonys will still work.

Don't know where to put this question but I did not hear wheather the Joey can watch what it wants from the Hopper? Or is the Hopper dedicated to showing the same channels throughout the home?If the Hopper is showing prime time can you watch something else with the Joey?

I do see it says IR/UHF on the spec sheet.

If you have a a Hopper and two Joeys you can watch any of the three tuners. A Joey is not locked to one tuner. If you wanted to you could have the Hopper and both joeys all watching the same tuner.

If I don't activate prime time anytime (a lot of garbage I will never watch and want to save DVR space) , can I crate my own prime time anytime i.e. just on Thurday night record the big four 8 pm slot only and still have the other two tuners open? I want to record the prime time shows I like on the big 4 but still be able to watch a live sports event I might prefer to watch that night on ESPN etc. With that if there is a game on during prime time on a big 4 will it record it? Also what days of the week does it record under prime time anytime? Does it consider Friday or Sat prime?

PrimeTime anytime does not take up any user available dvr space. It takes up space on the dish "partition" that you can't access anyway.

If you still don't want to use it in general, I would think the simplest solution for only wanting one day recorded in that fashion would be to turn it on on thursday mornings and off after prime time on thursday (or before prime time Friday). Not sure if it can be disable in the middle of a prime time block.

It's also possible that disabling the feature on Friday will make the Thursday shows inaccessible. It's unclear to me exactly how that will work. I would hope that once anything is recorded with it, it will leave it on the DVR for 8 days regardless of PTA being subsequently turned off.

To be honest, I think the proper way to use the Primetime Anytime feature would be to have it on or off and just leave it that way. Leaving it on will only take up one satellite tuner during the overnight hours and it won't take any hard drive space away from you to use. Turning it on one day and off the next is tedious and might even mess up your other series timers you already have set for other shows.

In whgdish's situation, just leave it on. If a sporting even comes up on ESPN he wants to see live, he'll have two tuners to still see it. If he starts making individual series timers for shows on the big four that share the same or have overlapping time slots, the box might not let him watch what he wants to see live because he'll run out of tuners. OR get an OTA tuner and an antenna.

Listen I know we are the tech savvy tinkerers and we just love to over do it just so that we have control and everything works exactly down to the letter like we want it too (it drives our wives if we have them crazy)... but in this case. So the software in the box work it's magic.

Thanks guys! I tried to be the astute reader , but guess I missed where it won't take up actual DVR space. I will turn it on and leave it. No harm really. One thing I would like to see, I saw in the video that you can save shows from prime time to your DVR to prevent deletion, but would like to see a series save option. I would fear my setting a prime time show series recording would mess it all up or unnecessarily take up a tuner. I get behind on my shows sometimes. I am sure they thought this through and it will be something I will just have to see how it works hands on. I just don't want to have to remember to save the shows I like but can't get to in 8 days everyday. I am so excited. This is what I have been waiting for. And yes I do drive my wife crazy with all this stuff, hopefully this will make things easier.

What about Sunday nite football or other sports during primetime. Primetime ends at 10pm. Will PTA record the remainder of the game after 10PM. Sports usually runs over and timers for sports usully run an extra hour to be sure to get the end.

A new 3D TV is on the way and I understand the Hopper is part of Dish's 3D plans...
